Done. Can those of you that couldn't see the images now see them?

One of the other favourites of people in the 'tell other people what they should do with their cars' camp is the 'Why have you lowered an SUV?' brigade. This is simple. I did it because I think it looks better, it definitely rolls less and... it's completely adjustable still. It still has a matrix of different suspension settings offering damper stiffness, ARB stiffness etc but also 5 heights selectable in seconds.

In other words, if needed I press a button and it does this. Simple.

In most of the other pics it's in normal or 'low' setting. It has an even lower setting that drops it on its arse that's supposed to be for loading.

That stance just looks right, really liking it, until the black wheels- sorry!

Following with interest

God these things look so mean. The modest lowering and spacers transform the look of the car. I think it looked perfect with the silver wheels, but it's your car and if you like it then that's all that matters, cracking motor mate. What a nice journey onwards from the 4.8is

A side by side for reader's delectation.

I'm pleased that you were encouraged to maintain this thread, your own work is super.

Would your critique of estate cars carrying the oddly-placed mass of bicycles apply to my S211 with fully airmatic suspension, too?

I do like a black wheel. However the silver wheels really popped with the car. Gave it a sense of speed whilst standing still. Black has seem to been lost and look smaller.

The black out round the windows made a massive difference.

Black for the trim was a great move (dependant on how it ages, though 573 referred to automotive grade and seems like a thorough sort of chap).

Black for the wheels negates the observation that the Michelin sidewalls seem blacker than the rest (they do so as a result of the veins). The black alloys have the effect of lightening them.

Perhaps OP might consider some silver alloys for the winter tyres, in order to quell the aesthetes of this thread? smile

EDIT: I use chromium edge so that I can sync passwords easily on desktop and mobile. Bloody passwords - I just auto generate and fire away.

Your old X5 makes the latest X5 look even more of a monstrosity than it manages to do in its own!

The Cayenne looks loads better with the silver trim blacked out.

I think the other way. Those wheels modernise the car and get lost when painted black. Now looks more like the first gen budget Cayennes whereas on the silver wheels it looked bang up to date.

Top one for me. Looks a smart and expensive car.
Bottom one looks like a Bradford bouncer's special.

I could put some stuff in here I guess. It's still a V8 and most certainly a bike bus.

Ride is similar between them both. I've compromised both by lowering the air suspnsion and fitting spacers. The actual kit under the Cayenne is pretty impressive though. The air struts have massively more volume and much more range of adjustment. It's also smarter and will adjust its height dynamically with speed and in conjunction with the optional PDCC that it has fitted. This obviously stiffens the springs but also stiffens the ARBs and does some dynamic levelling. It tows ridiculously well and loaded with bikes hung off the back like a huge lever its attitude on the road doesn't change at all.

The Cayenne also has proper off-road credentials. It's terrain mode lifts it right up giving it huge clearance but it also has diff locks front, rear and centre.
Nice choice! I had one of these a few years ago, they are great cars, use fuel like it's the 90s, but otherwise are solid cars.

Are you sure yours has the rear diff lock too? For that it needed the optional advanced off road tech package. If it indeed has it, you have a unicorn car. I've been searching for a 957 diesel or V6petrol with this package for 3 months now, and I've yet to see one for sale in Europe. Looked at every other trim/engine just to see if any are available and still nothing. I have a need for a good offroader but no urge to spend too much money. That package along with PDCC makes this the ultimate sleeper off roader.

Would you mind posting a picture of the console between the seats with the suspension controls?

If it's got air front and rear I imagine it works well. With any vehicle carrying mass, it's own mass is important though. What's a downside everywhere else is suddenly a benefit when you're towing or in this case, have a load hanging off the back using the rear wheels as the fulcrum of a hefty lever. Just looking at the pics above with 4 bikes dangling off in thin air shows you the difficult job the suspension and chassis has to do.

Not at all, I'll take one. I may well be wrong but thought I read it on the spec sheet.
