Fair enough, I assumed the lack of plinth was due to it being a small Jap one before - surprised yours doesn't have the US/Jap tailgate with the smaller recess or infill panel. That's what saloons have anyway but not sure on touring.
All depends on the spec when ordered.

This was ordered with the European plate plinths from factory as per the VIN

Quite glad TBH as they look better IMO

Nowt amazing, but found some old, but never used Blox locking wheel nuts that I must have bought in my previous Honda days

They fit perfectly into the Style 37s as they're the same thread and 60 degree taper; the locking key socket just fits too, so they've been fitted. Just need to source some nicer looking wheel nuts now wink

I will now have to check my Vanos pipe is not leaking also!

When I read your thread I the other day I ordered the intake pipe without the resonator outlet for no reason other than I was bored. I fitted it to my 525i today and also noticed/removed the following 'restrictor' in the wing air intake as below:

This unclipped easily and as you say there is a little more induction noise - I can only now assume half the extra noise is from removing this and half is from removing the resonator!

Nex job is to try to fix the 70-80mph shimmy (I swear it wasn't there on a test drive but it only seems to happen on dual carriageways for some reason!).

No such restrictor on my E39 thankfully (I think)... Just a few pipes that lead into the wing as 'supposed' cold air feeds! Had a good look inside (and hoovered too, full of leaves) and couldn't see it. Did you get at it with the wheel arch liner out of the way?

Re my vanos; it's got a slight weep on the bottom connection, tightened it as much as I dare, but it's still there. The rubbers perished a bit too, so may as well tidy it up and the HEL line was the same price as the OEM rubber line!

Re the shimmy; I'd be looking at rear upper front & rear arms, either the bush or ball joint has failed. I'm getting similar on my touting 65mph upwards, disappears around 85 haha...

The restrictor thing is clipped into the lower part of the airbox.

Are all those arms at the front or back? I feel there is an issue at the front but no one has been able to locate it and I am loathed to replace all.

Different airbox design on mine pal; maybe part of the detune that is the 525i vs the 530i

Yes; the arms are at the rear; there's a straight arm and one with a slight bend in it; they're both known to fail and cause a 60mph + shimmy; parts No.10 and No.6 on here:

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=DS62...

If not those; deffo get the front arms checked, also the tie rods/track rod ends and rear rose bush joints too...

Can feel like your chasing yourself when it comes to stuff like this; generally its those arms though. Get your tyres/alloys looked over as well for any bends/buckles/bulges in the tyres etc. Uneven wear on tyres can cause handling issues too!

Thanks, had assumed the issues would like at the front really. I have a sort of hollo knock at the front which I was thinking maybe the top mounts but this also needs investigating.

Are you fitting Genuine, Lemforder or other to yours? I can't seem to find the bent rear arms on Euro's as Lemforder unfortunately.

Stay away from ECP; buy them via BMWMotormec on eBay; they sell the Meyle HD ones and that's what I use, those and Moog

Lemforder are ok; but bloody expensive and it's really not worth it over the Meyle stuff IMO

Re hollow knock; could be the drop links

Liking this a lot. Looks really well on the 18s although I'd be torn between those and the waft of the 17s...

I've had a new Volvo V60 on lease for just over a year, and from about a week into the lease I've been wishing I'd bought the E39 540i Touring that I actually wanted instead and that I should have had the patience to hold out for. When the Volvo is gone (along with its interior rattles), I'm hunting down an imported 540i.

Interesting to hear you like the alcantara, I'd better un-rule-it-out of my searches. Like you pointed out, it never occurred to me that it would be warmer to sit on than leather.

Nice car, but a bit too lardy for my liking.

And I much prefer heated leather to Alcantara!
Thankfully; it's not your car smilewink

I wanted Alcantara for a change, so that's one of the main reasons I bought it... And if you knew the size of me (I like picking up heavy rocks for a hobby), the car suits me to a tee!
Fair enough! laugh

Just got all my parts in order for tomorrow's mechanicing session

New brakes all round (Mtec grooved discs front & rear, EBC Yellowstuff pads up front, Mtec's own pads on the rear, genuine BMW pad wear sensors, Motul DOT5.1 brake fluid (not pictured), HEL vanos line with necessary washers, fully refurbished alternator with 18 months warranty, Meyle HD rear arms (both sides), Castrol 75W90 diff fluid and new BMW diff plugs. Just sods law that my HEL braided brake lines haven't arrived, trackings on them via DHL seems to have gone awry, so sods law they'll land tomorrow when they're needed and I'm not home

Oh; rear drop links and prop duffnut being changed too... Think I might leave the brakes to another session when they can be done in one go along with the lines, but will see how things go tomorrow

The cars been given a good wash and Autoglym Aqua Wax though in readiness; it's nice to work on a clean car wink

Work done part 1 (Monday 29th April):

Alternator swapped out, HEL vanos line fitted, diff oil and plugs changed (Castrol 75W90) and all 4 rear arms swapped over for Meyle HD items:

Rear arms were a faff; had to deflate and loosen the rear air bags to allow for the bolts to be removed (that's once we get the fecking bolts undone)  They were all the original BMW arms, the alternator was the original BMW item too!

Part 2 (brakes install) happens on Friday wink  Will update then...

Work done part 2:

Mtec grooved brakes all round; Mtec brake discs on the rears, EBC Yellowstuff up front; HEL braided brake lines with Motul DOT 5.1 fluid; prop donut changed too (a few heat shields removed and it's extremely spotless under there), also got the 'copy' undertray fitted. A part from a seller in France via eBay; for £50 it does the job well. Needed to fettle it in a few places, but other than that, it's as it should be and a good saving over the OEM £150 part from BMW Germany!

After all the recent work and the bedding in of the brakes (the alloys were absolutely filthy, nigh on black); the car got an in-depth clean, inside and out yesterday; a great day for snowfoaming biggrin
