370Z GT Roadster
Discussion
I've just been shopping in it and I'd certainly missed driving it after 8 weeks of not using it for sure. It was also lovely to drive it roof down with only a t-shirt on(rather than a couple of hoodies in the colder months).
I only went there and back but I'm a happy man again!
The road tax was £580 though and that does seem like a fair chunk of cash to me, I guess that it is worth it though for the joy it brings me.

You should have done it before the budget - my Z4M coupe "only" cost £570!
At least I was able to visit family and sit 2M away in the garden this weekend, so I've finally managed 1,000 miles since I bought my car in December!
But just that interaction along with a 90 mile round-trip lifted my spirits so much I didn't even think about costs!
That is true regards the tax!

I'm chuffed for you that you got the chance to enjoy your Z4M, and that you also got the opportunity to see your family.
Still really enjoying the car. I used it today for the first time in 3 weeks but prior to that I used it fairly regularly for a couple of weeks.
I put a personal plate on it a few weeks ago which I'm happy with. Plus I enjoyed a bit of fun today with a 2017 Cayman S and we exchanged a thumbs up!
Then I got absolutely left for dead by a chap in a GLC 63S...they certainly don't hang around and it has made me want over 500bhp now!

Good stuff. Those GLC’s make a pretty good racket too.
I remember following an M5 Comp for a bit last year and getting left for dead.

They do sound nice for sure.
I keep trying to work out some man maths for one...but I reckon that it is a total lost cause!
That engine really appeals to me in any variant though to be fair.
Those M5's are also absolute flying machines too!

That does give me some nice options for more power/performance for sure.

Dont do it . I had a 370z for three years with bolt on modifications , bought a supercharged one with just under 500hp and sold it after less than 6 months . They work well as they are , adding more horsepower doesnt make them better in any way imo .
I do always remember you saying this to be fair. I am very happy with it as it is, and I didn't buy it for the outright performance anyway(it is probably a bit tubby for that I reckon!). It is good to know that there are options for it though for sure.

Nothing much to add apart from I'm still really enjoying the car and the noise it makes. Had an enjoyable morning in the sun roof down, and I got a nice smile/wave from a young chap. Days like today are great roof down for sure.
A service and MOT are due soon so I'll see how it gets on. I hope the underside of the car hasn't completely rusted away yet!

Glad you taxed it and have been using it, today is definitely a top down day!
The Ute still maintains fun daily service, although as the Monaro was SORNed during lockdown, I taxed it again for July and have mostly been using that to commute
That'll be SORNed again tomorrow though I think and finally the engine rebuild can begin, 6.6 litres here we come
Both being pre March 06, Ute and Monaro tax together is less than the 370z, just sayin'

So today it passed the MOT and it had a service. I wondered whether the hi flow cats would go through the MOT as they can be tempremental from what I read, but chuffed that they did.
I had to smile because the chap at the garage said that the bodywork is completely free from rust, but the underside of the car looks like it has been in a pond! Lots of rust on a lot of the steel components. It spent the first 5 years of its life living on the Arbroath coast though, so that looks like it has taken its toll on it sadly(plus I believe that the 350Z is also prone to rust underneath the car).
I keep it in the garage and only use it when it is dry, but the underside looks like it will need some attention going forward I'd imagine. I've managed to do 3000 miles in it over the 18 months I've had it(so not loads but at least I've used it a bit).
I'm still enjoying it a lot for sure.

Another year, another clean ticket!
These cars can be a partial to the tin worm. Did your tester make any mention if the rust was present on the chassis or bolt-on parts? If bolt on, replace them. My tree-fiddy (South Park reference
) is pretty good underneath and it was used for at least 3 years in all weather, so it's not inevitable.
If the 370 is anything like the 350, the rear arches are the first place to check!

It is mostly the bolt on stuff I believe.
The rear arches are fine thankfully cheers.

I finally took it out today(roof down obviously) for the first time since Dec 14th. I went shopping(the long way round) with my youngest daughter. She was a bit of a fun sponge though, and she wouldn't let me go over 5k revs because she said that it was too loud!
It was great to get behind the wheel again and I really enjoyed it. I got back and gave it a quick wash and popped it back in the garage. I'd definitely missed it for sure.
I was over the moon that it started after so long as well(it has been on a trickle charger though), because when you've owned a TVR...the car actually starting is never a given!

May I suggest the following for your daughter?

Glad it started up and went well, I have had an Alfa so I know the sense of trepidation turning the key even if everything 'should' be fine
Thanks and funnily enough when I mentioned it to my Mrs she suggested the same as you regarding the ear muffs as well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07X5Y5CN4

Yes the fear of cars not starting isn't a nice one is it?!

So the car continues to put a big smile on my face(especially the noise). Yesterday I was driving through my home town(Mansfield) and I enjoyed having a bit of fun with a chap in a Austin Yellow F82 M4. Predictably he absolutely wiped the floor with me, but it was great fun though!
His M4 was absolutely epic(mega fast) and I ended up getting a chance to have a quick chat with him at a set of traffic lights. Whatever he'd done to it was awesome and the noise it made sounded nothing like the noise that the S55 engine usually makes, plus it was mega loud!
I miss my Mansfield days for that big time and it reminded me of when I lived there and I had my S14a 200SX. When I had the 200 it was very common to get involved with another performance car for a bit of fun. That just doesn't happen where I live now though for some reason.
My mrs just thinks that I'm a sad git though...especially at my age! I guess us boys never really grow up though do we?

Sadly I did notice the other day that there is a very tiny amount of bubbling on one of the rear arches(I think they've been sprayed previously looking at them). If you didn't know it was there you wouldn't notice it though, but it is definitely something that I will keep a close eye on. These cars can be a partial to the tin worm. I keep the car garaged(only use it when it's dry) and it's only been caught out in a shower of rain a couple of times since I've had it. However the fact that it lived on the north sea coast before I had it is slowly taking its toll on it now I reckon.
