Fiesta ST MK7.5 Track car
Discussion
Another week and another update .
As all of the suspension units on the car have been upgraded or changed the only thing left that is still stock on the car is the inner and outer tie rods .
As they are not that expensive and the car is 4 years old now i set about changing them for some new Stark units from Germany .
New Stark front outer tie rod .
New Stark front inner tie rod .
New Febi dust boot .
Removing the inner tie rod was a bit of a pain as the stock Ford inner tie rods are smooth and do not have any cutouts for removing or installing so a special tool is needed .
Old OEM inner tie rod .
Old OEM outer tie rod .
New and old inner tie rod .
New and old outer tie rod .
And all installed

they are adjustable and stiffer / stronger than stock .
I have just purchased a set of whiteline adjustable drop links and I was wondering what length you had them at when you had just the lowering springs fitted?alex98uk said:
What do the different droplinks aid with?
Loving the build by the way, I have done a few Track orientated mods on my 2014 and looking forward to hitting Bedford Autodrome very soon as it is very close by
If I recall when I had the mountune springs I had the super pro adjustable drop links set just a bit shorter than the stock fixed ones say around an inch shorter .
Thanks I am enjoying building this car to how I want it .
I will be looking to go back to bedford next month for my first track day of this year and I want to see how the car has improved compaired to the same track last year with the car running less parts .
Might see you there .

That's great, thanks for letting me know.
Off work next week so will be fitting them. Will be checking my diary and see when the next Bedford day is.
You will probably be a lot quicker than me! I am still running standard Turbo but I have a CP stage 2 Map, ITG Filter, Collins Motor Mount, Quickshifter, Whiteline rear ARB, Eibach Sport Lowering springs, MTEC C hook front discs, Mtec racing brake lines with dot 5.1 fluid, Mintex Racing M1144 pads and Airtec Stage 1 Cooler. Also have just replaced my tyres with 215s instead of 205s. Only had the car since March when it was standard, so done a bit, but nowhere on the scale as yourself!

That is a good set up you are running and will be a quick little thing on track for sure .
If you will be doing a few track days might be worth looking in to a baffled sump plate as they are not that expensive .

I wouldn’t be surprised if these become the future track classic, taking over from the likes of the Renault Clio 182/RS200 and RS Megane’s
They are so damned good as standard and then so tuneable with plenty of aftermarket tuning goodies available it will be the go to track machine.

there's no question imo, it will happen! They are so damned good as standard and then so tuneable with plenty of aftermarket tuning goodies available it will be the go to track machine.
I think you may be right and the cheaper they get the more i think you will see on track .

Another week and another part put on the car .
The readouts and gauge on the Fiesta ST 180 are very basic and fine for everyday use but with the car running much more power and torque along with other things i was keen on having all the readouts i can to keep an eye on everything .
The things the Fiesta ST is lacking / missing in stock format is that it does not have the below gauge .
Oil temp
Coolant temp ( just a digital box gauge but no numbers )
Boost reading
I did look at a few different options but went for the P3 gauge in the end as i like the way it is mounted in the air vent and looks very OEM and has all the information readings i wanted and a few more on top .
The P3 gauge conects to the cars OBD socket and takes the readings direct from there .
The readouts the P3 gauge givers are all of the below .
Boost OBD2 port or with a P3 analog boost sensor
Coolant temperature
Air/Fuel ratio read in AFR or Lambda
Intake air temperature
Throttle angle
Ignition timing
Engine RPM
Exhaust gas temperature
Battery voltage
Programmable shift light
Digital Vehicle speed
Acceleration timers
Braking timers
New P3 gauge
The only problem with taking the turbo boost readings from the OBD port is that the max value read out is 1.5 bar and can be a bit inaccurate .
The P3 gauge has an option to add a analog boost sensor that can be mounted to a boost sensor adaptor and plugs in to the P3 gauge so this is what i got as well along with the correct boost tap pipes and boost hose .
P3 analog boost sensor
Turbosmart boost tap pipe .
Ram air boost hose .
Removing the OEM vent was not too bad using some removing tools .
Stock OEM air vent removed .
Next was to remove the blanking bolt on the Turbosmart boost tap and replace with the boost pipe .
Then install the boost pipe hose .
Then just plug and play with the P3 module and install the new P3 OEM air vent .
And below a quick video of the gauge functions and scroll through .
https://youtu.be/RPln9Tx2nVk
Im really happy with the gauge and how it keeps the inside clutter free and looks very OEM .
It will be very handy to know the exact coolant temps and boost pressures along with inlet temps and exhaust temps , AFR etc as running the car hard on track keeping an eye on all temps and pressures will be a good plan i think .

All ready ahead on that one and will update next week with the oil temp sensor as this may be of interest to you and was not that expensive or hard to do .
Good luck for Monday at bedford gutted I can't make it but let me know how you get on .

Any plans for a proper oil temp sensor? As I guess you know, ST doesn't have one so sort of guesses it using a calculation of coolant temps and other stuff.
Very small update for the front ball joint pinch bolt .
The OEM front ball joint pinch bolt can be a week link and the front of the car can become a little wayward if the Pinch bolt is done up a little more tight on the torque settings than the Ford recommendation .
As the bolt is not that expensive i have replaced it with a High Tensile strength bolt and nut .
High Tensile strength bolt and nut .
OEM bolt and nut .
Old Vs new .
And installed .

Time for another update .
After the install of the P3 gauge i have readouts of coolant , boost , EGT , induction inlet temp etc but the one that is missing is the oil temps as there is not sensor for this on the Fiesta ST .
As from the drivers seat you can see the passenger air vent nice and clear i have used this to house an Oil temperature gauge .
As this will be a vital readout i have got a new Prosport Oil temperature gauge and hardware .
New Prosport oil temperature gauge .
New sump plug oil probe bolt .
New wiring loom .
New DC3 design 52mm gauge surround .
New Oil temperature probe .
First was to get the air vent out with the help of some tools .
OEM air vent removed .
And new Prosport Oil temperature gauge installed .
And a quick video of the unit in action .

As this is a digital display with clear numbers in red i can see this nice and clear from the drives seat and again help to keep the OEM / un cluttered look of the car .

So after coming up for around 10 months since the car was last on track ( Nurburgring in late September ) i have booked the first track day of this year at Bedford for the Saturday 25/07/20 .
I just need to finish off a few things but we should be ready to go and it will be a good starting point and good to compare how the car goes with the new upgrades .
The plan was to do Spa and the ring again this year but that has been put on hold until next year so we will be doing some more UK track days this year and i hope to get in around 5 - 6 starting at Bedford .

Yeah will be good to go back there .
I did not know that there was no static noise test is it just the drive by that the check ?
Not that it will be a problem for me as last time I was 86 I think .

Nice, enjoy. I had a lot of fun at Bedford the other week. It's so much more relaxed in the morning now without static noise test and briefing.
Ok thanks for the info it will be good to get back on track again .
Have you got any other dates planned ?
alex98uk said:
Yeah, static is gone due to social distancing. I think they'll only do it if you get black flagged for noise. It's like a 101db drive by (previously 87 static).
I saw a few loud cars black flagged the other week, a few heavily modified BMW and a Nissan GTR.
