The return of my E60 M5 - Wallet drained - now Supercharged!
Discussion
Some new parts purchased yesterday. The car is getting on for being 14 years old so I have taken the decision to replace the SMG relays. These can fail and if they do, they leave you stranded as the car will not start unless the SMG pump is primed. Small money but a bit more preventative maintenance.

'Normal' fix turn around timescale is just a couple of days. Get it fixed then keep it as a spare perhaps ?

In other news, the new SMG relays arrived today, so will fit them while I am off next week.
My mate has just finished having his stroker built apparently the crank needed re balancing but all sorted with the other bits (exhaust/gas flowed heads etc) he's expecting 610-640bhp with 510-540lbft.
We went out in it last night low rpm of course but it felt a bit AMG ish in it's low down pick up he's going to run it with a 4k limit for the next 1000 miles then 6000 for next 500 after that.
The only problem he has is due to the delays because of covid he went & bought an M6 GC which is now 650bhp at the crank so it's now a question of whether he perseveres with the DCT conversion.

At the minute he prefers the GC but that's because he hasn't actually driven the M5 (he drove my old one a lot so knows what a near standard one drives like) in anger yet, he does say although it's fast & has the new tech etc for him the GC lacks a bit of drama that comes with the M5 but he loves the GC's looks.
Because you are like me, and are never happy with what you have, even taking the trials and tribulations with this specific M5 out of the equation.
I would really love to get a car that made me feel about it like I do about the dog, I dread the day when the annoying little st turns his manky little toes up, I will be bereft. An animal is different to a car but if I could find a car that even captured a tenth of that feeling I would be thrilled.
My M135i, well its alright, but have zero connection to it, some cars after a blast you feel like getting out and patting it, you glance back at it and you cant ever contemplate selling it. I am envious of folk on here who say that, not of the specific car, just of having that kind of feeling about a car.
For example my uncle has had his Jowett Jupiter since about 1966, obviously a little bit attached to it.
I dont care what it is, just that I dont want to get rid, have to say my TT got close, I know not everyone thinks much of them but I was really attached to it, just a pity it was fked
Maybe you are looking in the wrong places, maybe choosing a car on power is like choosing a partner based on looks ?
I cant imagine a newer M5 will be more characterful than yours, will be faster but realistically, whats the point ? 560 bhp, plus then get it remapped ? 700 bhp, 4 seconds at full chat and you blitz every speed limit, not that great to hustle down lanes, its like going paintballing and taking an AK47.
I am seriously thinking of toddling down to Ford and buying a Fiesta ST-3, plenty fast enough in the real world and loads of fun, not suggestion you get one but think you should perhaps look at stuff other than massive automatic German barges with huge power. Sometimes less is more.
