It's forsale now at the right offer. I've just bought another set of LCI rear lights and Miranda boxes to replace the ones that I sold to help pay my bill lol.
How does it compare (when working) to the E55 non kompressor you had previously?

I've only had one E55 which was a Kompressor model.

The E55 was a bit quicker but more dull. Cheaper to own, but never felt special. The M5 feels special.

Been looking at these Grom units myself. All plug and play as they suggest?
I fitted one to my e46 and it was plug and play, definitely worth the money i spent on it and i would do it again no questions asked.

Can I ask which model you chose? I've got the business cassette player with the CD changer, the Grom website isn't completely clear which of the two variants they offer is correct.

Was the options/standard kit higher on the Merc or BMW.

The E55 had;

heated seats
dynamic seats (option)
cruise control
climate control
folding rear sets (option)
sat nav (option)
rear climate control
panoramic sunroof (option)
mobile phone prep

I would say that the M5 was better spec'd in some ways, and not in others and needed options. I really wish it had rear folding seats as I have no real need for rear heated seats as I never carry passengers in the rear. I could convert it if I found a suitable rear seat but that would cost more than a second car that does have folding rear seats so pointless really.

I bought mine off ebay for my e46, what i have is the older USB2P, the bmw specific harness for the cd changer and the bluetooth dongle, i also plugged in a mic that i ran to the front of the car.
I think the latest version of the usb they offer now is the usb3 but buying new is quite expensive.
You can alternatively use the BT3 but you wont get the usb functionality that you can use to update firmware or keep songs on a usb drive.

I believe there are 2 versions of the harness adapter for the bmw, one that replaces the cd changer and one that goes behind the radio, for simplicity and ease of installation i'd choose the cd changer one.

They don't pop up too often on ebay, fbm or gumtree etc but its worth putting a saved search in for them.

I have LCI rear lights again. The car sure did need these.

I used a Mironics adapter set and LCI rear lights. I need to find a way to get the spider out. These have the Ricky Brake effect, so rather than using the lights behind the "eye lashes" for braking, they use the light on the inside.

No real pics of anything, I had a stinking headache when I fitted them last night. I will get some more pics when I remove them again to get the spider out and to finish the cleaning I did when the old lights were out.

The car will be spot on. Your brother will have some momentos from his failure I imagine.

I have 2 heads, throttle body assemblies, crank, rods, pistons etc.

I think he's taking the engine back mainly for the coilpacks he swapped out recently, the rest might end up being some sort of V10 coffee table smile

Nothing new to report, car is running fine. Oil usages is excellent, using 0.2 litres to 1300 miles, which for an S85 is very good!

I’m always terrified when I see this thread has been bumped laugh

I’m glad it’s playing ball for you now, happy motoring. They’re a very special thing when they’re working!

My previous experience is that the oil level gauge is far from linear, it seems to drop from 0.7-0.8L to 0.0L very quickly. Anyway, you've done at least 1300 miles per litre of oil so that bodes well!

This is true, time will tell. I am keeping it over 1l as per Mr Vanos recommendations. He believes that keeping it at 1l and below is too low for them. Hopefully it continues in this way!

Cheers. I was sworn to secrecy lol. Seems some of the commenters are less fond of it, but I don't own my car for them, I own it for me smile.

Came to post about the JayEmm appearance but I've been beaten to it!

When he started talking about the history I thought it sounded incredibly similar to yours and then I saw the profile shot with the stickers biggrin
