I think they were mostly low level scum looking for an easy opportunity because they scarpered pretty quickly. My first thoughts were my lad if I’m honest, not the car. He want to go and find them to kick them in he balls! That’s his response to most bad stuff. The joys of being five I guess.

My car doesn’t have comfort access, so as far as I’m aware, the key is needed to remove it.

It’s literally the first tine it’s been noticed in nearly a year; no one really pays it any attention.
From what you have said, I agree, low level.

For what it's worth, its extremely rare that in broad daylight, you would be car jacked. Rare, but not impossible. Kids aside, and I know what your saying, but just walk them away, walk off, tell them whatever. Its easy to forget - but - that the scum don't know YOU are the owner.

For me and you, the risk is overnight. As in, how is your car secured, where are the keys and what do the scum need to do to get to them?

I have an open drive. But, its large gravel. My keys live in a metal tin at the back of the house. My car is also blocked in by the wifes 13 plate dinosaur. We also have movement lights. Naturally, I am not complacent, but its a lot of work and noise to get to the car and get it moving. Plus you have to move the 13 plate, which is not keyless and grief. You can only do your best.

Always do my best at home to make it as hard as possible. Key now in a faraday ouch, hidden with the disklok key in a different place. Spare key in a metal box, hidden and my other half’s old 116 blocking it in. We’re set back off the road and it’s not visible with my other half’s car parked where it is. I reverse it in too so the exhaust pipes don give it away. Losing the silver details helps a little bit because plenty of smaller engined 1 series have black mirrors.

Hello from a fellow M140i owner byebye

Sorry to hear about your incident.

I also stumbled across a setting that allowed me to turn the active fuel economy gauge off which was distracting at night being red and slightly depressing if you paid attention to it! :hehe

I’d previously turned off the graphics that accompanied any change off mode.
Could you tell me how to do this please if you get chance?

To turn the graphics off of driving mode changes...

My vehicle...iDrive Settings...Pop-Ups and push down to get rid of the tick.

To kill the economy graphic....

My vehicle...iDrive Settings...Displays...Instrument Cluster and deselect Analogue additional displays.

The finish on my exhaust tips is crap; after 11k one side is rusting and both have pitted badly. Whilst I argue the toss with BMW, I bought a pair of M Performance knock offs from eBay. They’re a big chavvy, but my inner chav likes them and being a bit bigger, they fill the diffuser better.

I’m hoping to convince BMW to give me some brushed aluminium 435 tips because from what I can work out, these last better.

Forgive my dumbness, how to tips fix on - is it a ring and screw attachment like a collar?

Tempted to get some different tips but I have no DIY skills so its a bit outside my comfort zone.

Piece of cake to fit. Pull / tape the OE tips off and then the new ones slide over and are down up with a 10mm bolt. If you do get some Chinese copies, you’ll need 63mm internal diameter jobbies.

Actually used my car for a decent trip today; I headed further afield for a ride to Hopton Woods. It’s been five years since I last got over there so it was nice to do so, but having wobbled a bit with my car (much want for an M2), doing a longish boring trip suddenly made me appreciate it a lot more. It’s just effortless and easy for that sort of stuff.

It’s now coated in a mixture of dead insects and the Forestry Commission’s finest gravel road dust!

Had the car 12 months now and it’s largely been trouble free...I had to replace a front tyre last week due to a bulge in the sidewalk. Not sure what cause it because I don’t recall hitting any potholes, certainly none to make think bugger. £125 later for a new Super Sport...

The creaking seals are driving me up the sodding wall. It’s been back to BMW who have applied a clear tape (worked for a few weeks before returning) then they gave me a cleaner and treatment which has stopped working. It’s particularly bad when it’s warm. I need to get back onto them about sorting it properly.

Insurance was a pain in the arse this year, my renewal went up £70 to £666 and I struggled to get anything under £850 despite nothing changing other than more NCB. Ended up going via Adrian Flux for more or less what I paid last year. At least forming out for VED wasn’t too bad at £150.

I’d still like an M2, but I’ll hang fire until work looks a bit more secure and I’m not desperate to make the jump. I’d like a decent drive first, so will wait for life to loom a bit more normal.

Time flies doesn't it and I can't believe that it has been a year since you got it. I'm pleased that you got the insurance sorted in the end. £150 for the VED is awesome for the performance for sure. thumbup

I really hope that things settle down for you and that you eventually get your hands on a M2. I reckon that it is an itch that you really want to scratch! smile

Cheers bud.

I was hoping the insurance might go down, but hey ho. The VED kind of makes up for it (as you said for the performance it’s pretty good).

The joys of the construction industry; it’s a bit up and down and reacts quickly to bad news / recessions. I’m OK at the mo with a reasonable sized project that runs until next year.

Few changes inbound on the car...

Firstly a mate an I are finally fitting the H+R -15mm lowering springs that I bought last year. Adrian Flux conformed that they class it as a cosmetic mod, so no hike on my insurance premium. I’m hoping this will help the handling a bit especially with the rear springs being a tad softer than the rather harsh OE ones.

It’s the booked in for an alignment a few days later.

I’ve also ordered the underbody brace. Some rave about it, others says it’s a placebo. For just over £100 I figured I may as well give it a whirl. It’s on back order, so I’ll fit it once it arrives (looks an way enough DIY).

Be interested to hear if the springs and brace make much difference, I got the impression its the damping that is the main issue with the M lites ?

The stock springs on the M140i are really bloody hard (they increased the spring rate quite a bit from the 135), these are a tad softer. For what it’s costing I think it’s worth a shot. The Birds update sounds like a cracking investment but ultimately I’d rather put that kind of money towards an M2.

I put H&R springs on my Megane and they were brilliant. If I'm totally honest I didn't really feel any difference in ride stiffness but the car looked a lot better being lower and they were faultless on track.

Does this brace already exist on the 240i ?
