Audi RS2 Total Underneath Refresh/Refurb

What is the bodywork and interior and engine bay condition like?
Can’t help thinking it will look scrappy vs the underside !
I mentioned the body and engine bay on the first page and the fact that Audi 80's bodies are galvanised, it's not too shabby but needs a little refresh. The engine bay is good and clean and no leaks anywhere, I'm not trying to make the car look brand new all over as it would just cost too much and wouldnt add to the value. Can’t help thinking it will look scrappy vs the underside !

I find this such a satisfying thread to read, should feel like a different car once its done!
Bet the price on this thing has gone up quite a bit now as well.
Values of these has been all over the place for ages, they really do need to be looked at with a magnifying glass if anyone wants a good one. The history of one of these is also worth scrutinizing to know what's been done, exactly what I did not do when I bought this one as you can see from its underneath condition. Having said that I think could possibly fetch around £40k as it's now good underneath for the next 10 to 15 years.Bet the price on this thing has gone up quite a bit now as well.
Fantastic work you've had done there, kind of reminds me about what the underside of my ten year old Tiguan looks like - I bought it from Scotland and didn't notice the amount of rust underneath, thankfully 6 years later it doesn't look any worse.

or a decent after-market manufacturer such as Lemforder or Febi, or the secondhand market is also good too, especially in Germany/Europe.
Lemforder and Febi both make the components for Audi (and others), previous to my Tiguan I had an Audi Allroad, and purchased some Lemforder suspensions arms, the only difference between my original genuine arm and the new one was where the Audi 4 rings had been ground off. I manage an HGV workshop, and it's amazing just how many quality after market parts match the original parts down to welds, or marks in castings, clearly they've come from the same production line.Bringing this thread to a close, i went to pick up the car yesterday and was very very impressed with the result as this was the first time i had seen the car in the flesh since 1st May as that is when i dropped the car off at Tech-Sport Engineering in Market Harborough, the magic man was Nick. I had an hour or so just going over the car with Nick as he showed me all the issues that he had along the way and how he had over-come them, this guys attention to detail is very impressive, he kept in contact with me over the time it was being worked on.I could not have wished for a better finish and result on the RS, its fabulous. His workshop area is lovely and it can be noted that he has a very professional and experienced background in Motorsport
The drive home was great, the weather was great, only issue was i was just a bit mindful that having all new brake discs, pads and refurb calipers that i kept my distance from vehicles in front as i didnt fancy any dramas.

Thanks Nick, for all the hard work you have done, this car will stay with me now for a long time.

That looks flipping great - well done. And it's given me some inspiration for my MINI Cooper S: the underneath, subframes etc are in a similar state. How much was the whole refurb (if you don't mind me asking) and did you get a special rate?
Thanks very much, best thing to do is google the company and speak to Nick, he will sort you out, he is a genuinely very nice guy and will help out where you need it, the price is the same as anything else, it really depends on how bad it is to start with, how much you want done and what quality of finish you want. Its the old "how long is a piece of string", so you can have as little or as much done. Call him Im sure he would give you a decent price.frayz said:

Really nice job! Hopefully good for another 20+ years now.
On the brakes, my usual bedding in procedure is hard stops down from 60/70 to walking pace without actually coming to a halt, repeated a few times. Always found that works well.
Dave, i had a few braking moments on my drive back on the Mway yesterday and this morning theyre really "coming in" nicely now. I have also found that with fitting new discs, pads, a full caliper refurb with new pistons and seals they are now working as they were intended and the brake pedal works right at the top now. So many times i see or hear of people with these type cars (also old UR quattros) having the need to "upgrade" the brakes because theyre feeling rubbish and they go out and spend a forune on 2nd hand upgrades, then finding they have to buy new wheels due to the increase size of calipers. If they just did a "factory reset" on their original brakes then they would have a really good set that work as the car was designed to do, plus its keeping the originality, which is exactly what i wanted. On the brakes, my usual bedding in procedure is hard stops down from 60/70 to walking pace without actually coming to a halt, repeated a few times. Sorry, thats what I mean't, as in 'stock' they were Porsche items.
Cool beast to have!
Yes as NotNormal said they came with Porsche wheels, Porsche brakes, Porsche door mirrors and a lot of Porsche engine mods and fettling, also the suspension was beefed up to accomodate the 315BHP.Cool beast to have!
As can be seen in the engine picture below.

Gotta respect a bloke that keeps his workshop that clean ... you could eat your dinner off that floor!
Lovely job, now you just have the dilemma of which green meanie you are going to drive, one with 5 pots or 12..... .
Yes John, that workshop was a nice place to be and it was kept spotless, at least everytime i was in there, that shows you the quality and dedication of the workmanship of Nick and his brother.Lovely job, now you just have the dilemma of which green meanie you are going to drive, one with 5 pots or 12..... .
I took the V12 up to Cheddar Gorge last night as it was nice evening and oh my word what a car that is, ive not fully opened it up yet but blimey its very quick when you ask it to be quick.

Any opportunity to show it off:
The replacement for the Lotus Carlton with its stable mate:

Then up at Cheddar last night, this really shows the colour correctly

I wont post the AM on here any more as i dont want to detract from the RS thread.
