I also wonder who would have bought a new one! Interestingly my dad bought a Honda Civic in 2007. The Peugeot was twice the price of the Civic! 12 years later and the Civic is worth more than the Peugeot, that’s how bad the depreciation must have been.

Add to that by 2006 it was a 6 year old design based on an even older Chassis. A 2006 Audi, BMW or Merc was definitely a way better car!

I do like the car but I couldn’t imagine paying a lot of money for it!
This era of Peugeot chassis would be significantly more inspiring to drive than the equivalent Audi or Mercedes.

To be fair to it, it does handle pretty well for what it is. Brake pedal feels much better than my 2016 Skoda even if it hasn’t got as much ultimate power.

People sometimes mod the door mirrors and fit an LED to the heater circuit.

When the 2.0HDi goes into regen mode, it turns on the glow plugs, the rear demist and the door mirror demist and the LED then tells you when regen mode is activated (unless its cold and you have turned on your defrost !)

Why do they turn all that stuff on? To load up the engine?

Yeap, exactly, to increase the load and consequently temperatures. Other OEMs do that as well.

Another update on the car. I’ve been doing odd jobs on a morning to slowly get the car back up to standard. First was vacuuming and cleaning the carpets. The drivers side as expected was the worst.

Before;

Once cleaned I put the new mats in I ordered off eBay.

The floor looks much nicer for some mats and the car smells fresher with the carpet being cleaned.

Whilst I was servicing the car at the weekend I noticed the rubber grommets that hold the engine cover on were all perished and falling to bits causing the cover to rattle.I ordered replacement grommets and fitted them this morning.

The drivers seat belt was slow to return. I googled it and there was a suggestion to spray them with furniture polish. I decided to use silicone shine as it smells nicer and it has done the job nicely.

Now I’m waiting for a day off work and some nice weather so I can give the outside a good clean and machine polish.

A quick question for those of you that have owned diesels. When cold, as in just started, it’s a bit hesitant at low revs and very light throttle. Not for long, maybe 30 seconds max. Give it more throttle and it pulls as normal. Is this normal given the engine is cold or is it indicative of an issue?

No its not normal in my experience, the wife's 307CC drives the same whether stone cold or up to temps, one thing that surprises me is how quickly you get warm air from the vents, on a -5 morning it was warm after less than half a mile, my VW tdi took about 6 miles in comparison!.

I'd offer you the loan of my lexia kit but it has stopped working (I've only used it once to reset the steering angle sensor after a stalk change)

Not good, I’ll investigate that then. As I say, it’s only very slight for a few seconds but it is there. The rest of the time it drives fine with no issues.

I’ve been impressed with both the heating and cooling on this car. It’s miles better than my Skoda. The air con is cold almost instantly and it takes seconds to warm up. It also doesn’t mist the screen up for no reason like the Skoda which is a well known issue.

As it's a diesel, the heater probably has a PTC element.

A bit of googling shows the hesitation to be caused by the EGR valve and is common across all the cars with this engine. I’ll work out the best solution.

I'd say that'll be ignoring it, they are a major pain to get to!

Seems that way given the videos I’ve seen! It’s not clogged completely as the engine runs fine other than those few seconds after starting it up. I don’t usually believe in all these sprays etc but it seems many have had positive results with Wynn’s egr cleaner, may be worth a go.

Very easy to disable them on the HDi, I'm assuming similar architecture to my 306 2.0 HDi. Un-clip the blue EGR solenoid control and stick a screw in one of the vacuum lines. Won't necessarily help if its already clogged but a simple fix for the future nonetheless

The booster heater wasn't working on the VW - wife's is blowing warn air after a few hundred yards. Same in my old Merc. If they've got PTC heaters in the airducts (some never Mercs do) it's almost as instant as turning a hair dryer on.

It's electrically operated on the 136 engine IIRC. They are easy to blank, however.

Care to elaborate on that as I feel I should be doing my bit for climate change biggrin

Ive put the blank plate on a focus.
It has the 1.8 tdci, it's simply a plate that bolts in between the egr and metal pipe.
On this engine it wont throw a check light, on the 1.6 and 2.0 I think it does, if fully blanked off.
That's why some of the plates have small holes in them.

Upside it wont put gunge down the inlet manifold.
Boosts from lower down and the power at initial throttle opening is much more consistent.

Downside, nothing. smile

I’ve looked at the blanking plate and decided for not it’s not for me as it throws a check engine light. I am considering a remap so if I do then I’ll get the blanking plate then. Dave search for the blanking plate on eBay, there’s one seller that shows you where it goes and it looks simple.

In other news I’ve decided that I’m going to keep this car. I bought it for a bit of a laugh but I’ve decided that I prefer it to the Skoda as a road car, it’s much more comfortable in comparison. I’m going to get rid of the Skoda as it seems silly paying every month for a car when I’ve managed to get something that does all the same stuff for less than 4 months payments.

I know what egr blanks are, I had them on my golf and bora, I was asking for more specifics on the hdi136 one but if they ping the eml on I'm not arsed as I'm not one for lit warning lights!

And Tom I can't see you doing many track days in the 607 hehe I've been meaning to send the wife's ecu off to hdi-tuning for a dpf safe remap.

I know what you mean about comfortable dailies though, Audi forgot to fit suspension on my A3 and it's pissing me off after my barge avensis, mind you it's a bit quicker, I'll have to keep it a while longer as I've just spent a fortune on preventative maintenance.
