What £100k car is worth £5k today?

Place your bets;

I’m going for a 20 year old high spec S Class with moon mileage.

Go on Op, as least give us a clue...

I'd be contacting the ASA not the daily mail.

Drive it through their shop window. That will get the media coverage to damage their £30k claim

Cheeky... But it's still a win. Stick it on eBay and go on a nice holiday or similar.
And you know what - I need to look at this from a clear perspective. Its something for nothing so while I was disappointed when I found out its real value earlier today, its still a £5k value car I didn't have before I entered.

Gonna be hard to shift being an old V8 - might just have to drive it....vroom vroom! (until it inevitably breaks!)

Sounds very odd that a major brand should promote a prize of a second hand car!
"Lifestyle" vehicles are often used as prizes in competitions - "win a classic VW Splitscreen" or "Win a classic Land Rover" are both competitions I've entered before (from Fat Face) - people want them and they don't make new ones anymore?

Some old BMW 760li? Old Merc S600? Something the general population will think it's worth a fortune, when is actually worth peanuts and has ruinous repair costs. Edit - Just seen you've said it's a V8, so ignore my guesses.

Ok - the one and only clue.

Its got a 6L petrol engine. However - if anyone guesses, I can't really say yes or no until at least Wed (when I expect to get the car)

Subscribed - really interested out of curiosity as to whether there could be any 'claim' from a legal perspective. On the one hand you could say you've suffered no loss, on the other you could say you're £25k down! Maybe citizens advice or trading standards for some freebie semi qualified opinion or a solicitor if you're prepared to spend? How about a small claims case for not much outlay?

Its 2nd hand - which was pretty clear as these cars are about £80-£100k new. I can't really say what the car is right now, otherwise it would be easy to ascertain who the company is, and its not within forum rules to bring unwanted negative attention to companys on here.
An £80-£100k car that has depreciated to £5k?

I don’t think you would be breaking any rules by naming either the company or the car, though it probably would reveal your identity if that’s an issue.

I guess that I shouldn't really be surprised, that posting this on PH, people are more interested in what type of car it is than the actual predicament I find myself in biggrinbiggrin

What happens if the car turns up and is knackered? Needs x amount spending on it to make it roadworthy?

well, the poster a few above suggested contacting the ASA and certainly they have form if a competition or promotion has been run unfairly, and if the prize is of significantly different value to what you believed, did that affect the fact that you entered? Although, it was a free-to-enter competition, how clear were the T&Cs at the point of entry/on their site etc?

I can't believe any proper company would give away a car like that these days - unless they were trying to provoke publicity. Made doubly likely by the first bill a £5K verion of a £100K car throws up will probably write it off.

Could you be an arse and chuck it into a specialist garage and get them to give it the once over with a fine tooth comb and then ask the supplying company to cover the inevitable work required?
