Best speed camera/ laser detector?
Discussion
Laser detectors aren't pointless. They often detect scatter and reflections as he targets other cars well ahead.
I was driving along a quiet A14 a couple of years ago at a nice steady indicated 75-77, and the detector I had then began to chirp gently. I couldn't see anything. But then about 800 yards ahead the rear of a camera van appeared over a gentle brow.
If I was doing a big mileage now like I was in those days, I would have one.

Laser detectors are pointless, by the time it warns you, you've already been caught. An option would be to use the Waze app whenever you drive as that warns of cameras and mobile sites once another user has reported them.
Therein lies the problem.eybic said:

Therein lies the problem.WAZE. Every single time.
It has saved me many, many points. Most recently on a fairly deserted A43 when I was giving it a bit of a spanking along with a few other cars. Waze pinged, 2 of us slammed on, the other 2 didn't ..... I suspect they got nice letters, because as we came over the brow of a hill, there was the camera van.
You know what? I am utterly desperate to be the first to report a camera van, but I've never managed to. Someone has always tagged it before me.
It alerts on fixed cameras as well, but if you get nicked by them, you need to think about your driving.

I too have never spotted a camera van that isn't on the database (which tbh is a bonus rather than a hinderance). It seems very well updated these days as I guess it has so many users. In fact other than breakdowns on motorways, its fairly rare to get the chance to add something

I've got a Valentine 1 - excellent detector
I sold mine as I was fed up with it going off when passing petrol stations and just about anything. Too many false alarms.ellroy said:
How easy is it to tag them, especially when driving? Run the risk of using a device while driving charge possibly?
You certainly do, if the device is a mobile phone, and you touch the screen.Waze uses data to report the camera van, which counts as an 'interactive communication function'.

Am I being daft but how is that different to the screens on a myriad of cars ?Waze uses data to report the camera van, which counts as an 'interactive communication function'.
What about Screen Share ?(to a fitted screen)

They wouldn't fall foul of the mobile phone legislation. if they didn't need to hold it. For instance if it is in a holder Waze uses data to report the camera van, which counts as an 'interactive communication function'.

It's not always Laser they use, some police forces still use good old radar guns.
I've got a Valentine 1 - excellent detector
I thought the last hand held radar guns in the UK were gone and radar was limited to fixed cameras? I've got a Valentine 1 - excellent detector
there still used
