The Evoque got a lot of stick for being convertible but I wasn't sure if that was because it had a bit of a school run mum image and making it convertible made it even more so but now VW has a T-Roc convertible and I can't help thinking that its a niche that somehow manufacturers have missed. After all people love SUVs so a convertible one surely makes sense? And they aren't any more disagreeable than those stupid SUV coupes!?

Because they're new. 10 years from now, we'll hate something else.

I think it's because some people like (a) moaning and (b) criticising the choices other people make, even though they're unaffected by those decisions.

Let's face it, the Ariel Nomad and the Evoque convertible are essentially just ways to get mud all over you. What's not to like?

They don’t do it for me - in the same way I don’t like suv coupes- the worst of all worlds in my view. But it is only my opinion - other opinions are available....

Anyway here’s an SVO version I saw : Benefit is they can park anywhere

I don't mind them to be honest, wouldn't buy one buy don't feel enraged every time I see one. My wife missed her A4 convertible when she bought the Evoque, so a convertible Evoque would cover all the bases (she got one with a glass roof).

But here's a question for you. Why are the SUV coupes disagreeable? They have most of the same capabilities as the cars they're based on with a different outline. An X6 may have less luggage capacity than an X5, but it still holds loads more than a lot of cars.
It's essentially the same question, why are you surprised that some people don't like some cars?

They are incredibly ugly. SUV coupes are the worst looking cars on the road. They are huge, yet small at the same time.

That’s about how they look to my eyes hehe
If it’s what people like then good for them personally not a fan but then I’m not over keen on them with a roof either

Agree. Each to their own but to me they look like prams. I also do get irritated being stuck behind anyone in a convertible when they decide to lower the roof and hold everyone up whilst they drive at 10MPH. They come across as attention seeking and selfish.

Also agree with the above comment about large cars with small space inside. Don't get that, makes no sense to me. But again each to their own before someone gets mortally offended.

Not aware of a Tiguan convertible. Are you sure.

I've seen pics of the VW T-Roc convertible, and love it. I also love the Evoque convertible, but I realise I'm in the minority.

I think a lot of people hate them because it's fashionable to hate them, and it's just another bandwagon to jump on to fit in with everyone else.

Personally, I love convertibles, and no car was ever made worse by being a convertible (although the PT Cruiser came close).

Does that really happen? I own a convertible (Saab rather than SUV) and have only ever open/closed the roof while parked, and in 30 years of driving I've never had someone slow down to a crawl to open a car roof in front of me

I've literally never encountered that. It must be such an uncommon experience to really not be worth getting upset about.

I like Convertibles, and I like SUVs. I like the fact that these are available.

To be honest, The Evoque convertible really appealed me but it was the first time in my life that I was put off from buying a car because of the amount of hate they received. I'm actually a bit ashamed of myself for allowing myself to be put off. Maybe I'll fix that.

If it's not a silver coloured BMW diesel estate then PH won't like it.

The really are not my thing but like everything on here it gets covered in hate.

A manufacturer could bring out a 500hp RWD coupe that does 60mpg, large boot and for £10k new and the people that comment on PH news article would find a reason to complain.

An Evoque convertible will never get any mud on it.
