Is this overpriced?
Discussion
It will probably be one of Jack Tordoffs cars god knows how many he has but they always look mint. Its hard to say yes or no the the OPs question really. Would a 36k car be better that you end up spending 15k on remedial work? Chances are this one will be drive and enjoy. Targas are never as sought after as the coupes of course.
As an Approved Used Porsche from an OPC, then you would expect a premium price, but it’s not ridiculously expensive.
However, I’d be put off by a few things:
- It’s a Targa - not the best loved model
- It’s a 915 gearbox - the G50s tend to be far more desirable (1987>)
- It’s high mileage - 145,000 mls pushes it out of interest to the ‘collectible/investment’ market
- It’s not entirely original - but you can forgive much of that
- It’s Black - not a favoured colour (although some people love it)

Not enough information to say if it's overpriced. I believe Leeds are an approved Porsche Classic centre? I would also expect that car to be a very good standard with evidence of plenty of money spent in recent years. Wouldn't be put off by the 915 box as a good one is even preferable imo. Black is also a good colour for a Targa. Certainly looks nice in the pictures. Given the car is from an OPC I don't think it's expensive at all.
I didn't think that Porsche warranty could be applied to this age of car? I'm probably wrong.
That aside, my first thought was that it might be a Porsche restoration project - it's got the Porsche Classic Radio/Nav which is sometimes a requirement of the Porsche Classic Restoration Competitions. The interior looks re-trimmed.
My 928 was an entry in the 2016 Porsche UK Classic Restoration Competition - it was a requirement that all entrants had the Porsche Classic Nav fitted plus Trofeo R tyres (not that this car has Trofeo R's fitted).
Looks very well priced if the above is the case.

It will have warranty. I live nearby and have looked at a lot of their classics over the years and they are always of a very high standard.
If anyone is in the market for a backdate Im selling mine soon. High mileage but tbe most solid car I could find. Similar money to the one mentioned above but full backdate/mexico blue/buckets/cage etc

You clearly didn’t see the dogs dinner of a Guards red 930 they did. Clearly it was an improvement on the rust box they started with, but the finish was awful. It’s not overpriced if you really want a Targa with a clunky 915 gearbox.....I remember buying one in the trade around 10 years ago. I gave £8k for it, traded it immediately and drove it 40 miles to drop it off - it was an utterly hateful thing to drive, and I’d have had more comfort if I’d cycled...Was either a poor example or you just don't get them. A 3.2 Carrera, whether 915 or G50, that has been properly maintained is an absolute joy. Yes you have to drive it. Jump in one after driving a modern car though and yes it will feel properly vintage. When she's cold, the clutch is heavy, gears are reluctant, the unassisted steering is a real effort but once on the move and warmed up - fantastic! Nothing like a 992 of course, just jump in and go. Hell, you don't even have to change gear yourself
Decidedly mediocre bodywork / paint condition, looks shiny but give it a couple of days outside in the real world and it will look like the 6/10 that it really is. Not a "bad" car at all, but no-where near anything special, except for the price. And this without going into to targa / 915 side of things
Thanks for all the comments.
I’m currently on holiday but will go and have a look if it’s still around when I get back. I’ll get full details and history then, but apparently it had a full engine rebuild a couple of years back - don’t know who by yet, but will find out more in a week.
