Hi All
My 2014 Cooper S has just hit 77,000 miles. Bought it exactly a year ago with 64,000 Miles.

Ever since I bought the car a year ago, it’s had a especially rough idle after start up for 15 seconds until the RPMs settle and it idles smoother but still shudders and splutters. It doesn’t seem to misfire, pulls beautifully and has no power drop. As soon as the ac is ON it raises the idle to 900 and seems much smoother/no shudders.

Been back to Mini 4 times under used car warranty, no faults recorded on ECU and returned with a software update. No CEL and has never come on. Warranty unfortunately ended 3 days ago.

Got the car booked for a Stage 1 Map, taking it from 192bhp to 260bhp.

Does this seem like a HPFP Issue? When running “rough” the RPM needle has no movement, so seems smooth but the engine Shudders and Splutters through the cabin.

Any Help Appreciated!

remapping a car with a known problem seems a bit on the silly side.

Take it to a competent mechanic and have them check fuel pressure to see if it is doing what it's supposed to when driving. Although if it isnt flagging any faults....it's probably ok ( but not definitely ).
Best thing is to drive it and log fuel pressure targets, fuel pressure and any control strategies to see how it is all behaving.

If you think it's dropping a cylinder at startup, you could check the header temps with an IR thermometer and see whether a cold one stands out.

Have you tried clean plugs?

I think you are being exceptionally generous here.

I know it may seem like a silly thing to do, but I bought the car a year ago to have fun with. Hopefully having the map might actually trigger something to go wrong and I can get it fixed. Before the map they run a full health check and dyno run.

If it runs perfect with the higher idle speed with ac on, then are you sure it’s not just a slightly low idle? Can u get someone to adjust it up slightly and see how u go
