Well, this is me in the st. Already got 5 cars ( there are 2 of us ), and just spunked out on a UK 49k V plate Impreza Turbo 2000 'cos it looks mint, is completely standard and has factory aircon.

None of which is going to cut any ice with my car ( and husband ) hating wife, who I've yet to inform will be required to take me on a 300 mile round trip to collect said vehicle, which, on my return, I have nowhere to store! Might have to find a buyer for this before I even collect it, which would be a shame as I'm really looking forward to owning it for a while! Still, as impulse purchases go, I've possibly come close to doing worse. Dunno why I keep doing this, it's clearly a form of sickness.

I'll post some pics when it arrives in about a week, if I live that long!

Aye, well, you can laugh, but I've crossed a line here. I'm already a marked man because of my " short term investment " purchases, namely my Mk1 MR2 and 987 Boxster S, both of which I've now had for more than 3 years! She's wise now, still haven't told her, she's going into orbit when she hears about this. Paid the deposit, just got to find a way of making a few grand that's about to disappear from the account look like it's still there!

Wish me luck.......the irony is, she'll probably end up with the car as part of the settlement!

It's a pity you're not closer - I've got a secure barn I'm be happy for you to keep it in (I'm in Wales tho).

In fact - here's a thought - pay Shipley to transport it here direct? Now that sounds like a massive risk (sending the car directly to someone you've not met yet etc etc). But here's the thing - this is PH - pm me if you are really stuck; I'm trustworthy and I've helped out some other phers recently/ongoing.

I realise it's a bit extreme (storing the car a long way from you) but at least your wife wouldn't see it, it would be safe, doesn't have to be for long, I've got insurance (I keep some old tractors in there too). Just a thought.

6 cars here, 5 for me, one for the mrs!

She wasn't impressed when a VR6 arrived on a flat bed from Norwich in January, after me saying nothing else til something is sold, but understands some will be moved on at some point, and money will be made... eventually laugh

Shiply really has opened up the car market for me! Probably a bad thing really!

Impreza sounds like it will make you money, unless it was over priced, I'm sure she'll come round!

Buy her something nice, or get very interested in the keeping the house tidy for a few weeks! clap

This ^

Create and ad with an unrealistic price that no one in their right mind would pay and show it to her explaining that you are selling a car. Or maybe two to soften the blow.

Or just sell one if you're short space.

Congrats. I saw this Impreza on eBay. The silver turbo 2000 if we're thinking of the same vehicle.

Looks identical to my old V reg Turbo 2000.

Enjoy it!

Yes, that's the one........in my defence, if you've seen the car, you'll know why I couldn't resist, but that's not going to fly with Mrs Heaveho.

Thanks for all the good luck messages, never before have I felt so much in need!

I could sell something else, and it may well be the Boxster that's sacrificed, but it kind of goes against the grain. I'm dead fussy with the upkeep and appearance of my stuff, I've only kept the stuff I've got because they're generally in such nice condition that I'd worry about replacing them, if I wanted to, with something as good. I do try and buy with one eye on ease of resale, just in case I suddenly need to part with something, but until now it hasn't been an issue and I've had all of the others for between 3 and 16 years.

Thanks to the very kind gentleman for the offer of storage, no problems trusting someone on here, and it may well become my only option, so never say never. It's much appreciated, but I'll try not to drag you into it!

There's an easy answer to this problem: add up the cost of the MR2, the Boxster & the Impreza, take that amount of money out of your bank account & give it to your wife. Tell her she isn't to spend it on anything for you or the house. Handbags, shoes & clothes are ok.

When you next want to spunk £5k on a car ask yourself "do I have £10k in the bank?".

If you can't afford to do this you can't afford the cars.

Hmmm, not sure if serious..........confused

It was never an issue about the amount of money, more the fact that it was, by my own admission, a bit of a potty thing to do given that I live in a city centre townhouse, in which I've already had to lift the kitchen/diner floor up to accommodate a ramp in the garage below! Space and reason is the issue at hand, not the expense. Just as well....

5k? Er, I'd better check the advert again, I'm sure it wasn't that much! smile

I've hidden all of the sharp stuff, I'll update when sufficient courage has been summoned to begin the inevitable conflict!

I’ve lived my life with Mrs BC with the rule that it’s better to ask for forgiveness after than permission before.......

It can be a smidge painful sometimes but it’s much easier than asking and being told no - then doing it anyway biggrin
