Two days of very enjoyable reading, thanks so much for taking the time to give us an insight into what it takes to keep 'Galileo' on the road.

I've only seen one LC on the road and that was heading through the Hindhead tunnel on the way to a Goodwood Sunday Service. Amazing cars smile

What a great thread.

Good stories, well told. I'm a bit sad to have reached the end!

Bad news for you... good news for us if it gives us another instalment!

Good work on the 7, bloody brave working underneath a gearbox the size of that!

So question does this look like a Monza

Mrs BC doesn't think it does...............

PS - plasma cutters are great biggrin
I've just realised it IS possible to dislike someone you've never met before! This is (yet another!) of my lotto win cars.

My very first car was a Commodore Coupe GS/E, loved it then (obviously not enough because I sold it - feckin' idiot!) and would happily have a resto-mod one now.

Great thread!

I'm a hopeless Opel Addict - took me several years to find a very rotten but possible savable car in my budget - then I hid it away for a few years till I decided what to do with it and come up with a reasonable excuse for why I had it without revealing how long I had it biggrin
I was tempted with a Commodore II Coupe with Opel/Vauxhall 3.2 V6 for motive power (IIRC that's an easy 25% increase before you start thinking of turbos etc) and then various (silly/sillier!) ideas on where to go from there... Jägermeister racing livery...

Got to be i6 for me so I'm building a sister to one already build and fitted to another Monza

3.0 24V engine fitted with

Oversize custom JE forged pistons
Lotus Carlton stroked crank and rods - so 3700 cc
Higher lift and longer duration cams
Ported Cyl head
50mm Webber carbs on custom inlet manifold
Swing dizzy with mechanical advance but electronic ign

Should be good for a little over 300 bhp and I have all the parts just need time to build it

Getrag 265 box
Monza suspension and 3.7 ratio slipper diff
colour me interested!! That itself would be very worthy of a reader's cars!

I followed the link to this thread from the recent PH article about the heavily priced LC.

I’ve got to say that this thread is one of the best I’ve read. It’s a perfect example of how I (and obviously many others from the input) really love and can appreciate someone else’s inner geek.

I’ve absolutely no affinity to Vauxhall or of the specific models mentioned except the LC. However, after reading this thread I feel I’ve missed out on a whole heap of fun. My dad had the option of a Senator for a company car but went down the Granda Scorpio route instead. Kinda wish we’d had a Vauxhall...a sentence I’d never thought I’d say or type!

Thank you for the effort and time BC...brilliant brilliant geekiness and really appreciate the thread. My wife less so as I keep reading bits and just get the blank deadeye stare of someone completely unamused. hehe

Love the thread, nice to see a man enjoy owning and using a car. Reminds me to get my Gravel Express up and running ASAP!
I can definitely recommend a Chimaera. I ran one as my daily for a few years. They have their own issues, but the most annoying of the hot start. Someone decided to run the wiring right next to the exhaust manifold...... I'm 6'8, and never had any trouble getting in or out. I'd go for a 500 if your can find one, for a silicone intake pipe, and get proper length intake trumpets. And sleeve the silencer, of course. Ppwer steering isn't really needed, either. Mine was Peugeot Imperial Blue, with the headlights converted. If I come into funding, I'll be having it back!
