Kia Stinger GTS 2019

I've been waiting with baited breath for them for get to 20k, but they're just not dropping. I'm sort of hoping they get closer over the next 6 months, I'm thinking of getting one in the new year. New baby on the way and suddenly the wife's mx5 wont be as practical, so hopefully that can live in the garage and Stinger can be the main family car, and my 10yr old diesel Accord can do my 50 mile a day commute and keep the Sri ger for best, and with her on maternity for the best part of next year it'll keep the mileage off it a bit.
So, update. The Stinger is still with me and I still love it.
But, it is going. A variety of reasons, but mainly increased mileage, more local trips, and an average of 27-28mpg means I am going to try something different.
I have an appointment at WBAC tomorrow morning. They have offered very strong money (the market has gone crazy). If they try to low-ball me, I will sell privately.

I sold the Stinger yesterday to WBAC. Very happy with the deal. They didn’t take a penny off.
Overall, it has cost me (purchase price minus sale price) £272 per month of ownership. £310 if I include the service package.
Of course this doesn’t include tyres and petrol, quite a lot of both being consumed.

Interesting next choice Dunc, followed your journey from the humble Octavia (still got mine!). Yep, the Stinger was absolutely amazing and did everything I would have expected. The ride in Comfort was sublime due in part to the long wheelbase and also the wizards who set up the chassis.
The V6 is the part I will miss most. Butter smooth and bloody quick in any setting, even more so in Sport.
The interior looked amazing, had every possible toy and the nappa leather seats were so nice.
Niggles? Mainly the sunroof. Multiple attempts to fix it, as documented here, couldn’t solve it. Others have the same issue. Some are lucky, but if the roof creaks, it will creak forever. The only solution is to open it or play loud (720W) tunes. Otherwise, the car was totally solid.
The Harman Kardon, with a sub under each front seat, was fantastic. I’m not an expert audiophile, but I love my music and the kids and I just loved listening to it. Mrs Dunc just though that it was too loud!!
I changed because I decided the roof irritates too much, my short commute and my parents moving closer meant that 27mpg was my average, and because I was offered silly money by WBAC.
The 5 series is obviously a lovely luxury car, but the 540i wouldn’t have been much more economical and would have been ££££ more.
The 530E is perfect for a 6 mile commute and other local journeys, and is well specced enough to hopefully keep me happy. I’ll miss the V6, but silent local motoring bizarrely appeals. 0-60 in 6 is sufficiently quick too. 4.7 never got boring, but became irresponsible in my head on the road. And it chewed tyres and petrol.
Still miss my last Octy though. Brilliant family cars.

The 530e is fantastic. Really enjoying it so far.
Obviously a very different car to the Stinger. Quick enough rather than fast, but I did tend to be in Eco mode in the Stinger most of the time in the last months.
Quality is a significant step up. The difference has surprised me actually. The interior is fabulous. Everything you touch feels very solid. The iDrive system is great - I like having the choice between the wheel and touchscreen. I have added CarPlay, speed limit display and digital speedo via coding.
The Harman Kardon sounds slightly richer than the same in the Kia, but both are very good.
I am averaging 58bhp over the same journeys that the Stinger gave me 27bhp. Clearly this is due to much of my commute being on electric only, but will save me money for sure over time.
I do love the 100% instant torque on pulling away.
So far, no rattles or squeaks too, which is very nice. In fact, it is almost silent with just tyre noise in the distance. Hence it’s extremely relaxing.
Overall, a very different experience to the Kia, but I’m pleased I made the switch.

I think I would still have made the switch.
I don’t regret the Stinger at all. It was a fantastic car that did exactly what I thought it would. It was very fast, well-equipped and looked amazing.
I think the question you could have asked is, “if the second hand car market wasn’t so buoyant, would you have switched?”
Answer, probably not!
However, as above, I am really enjoying the 530e.
But, if anyone is thinking of a Stinger and wants a fast, reliable and different (left-field!) car with a long warranty, I would definitely say to go for it! I loved mine and will miss it.

That’s only £2k less than I paid for it in July 2019 with 1,900 miles! The market is certainly inflated! Remains to be seen if someone will pay this for it though……..
