A fairly boring update for today.

Absolute bodge artists.

I've owned an XJ12, so have experienced a nice Jaguar engine.
Unfortunately, it was mated to an auto, but it was still a wonderful things to drive.

Yeah, but I'm not entirely surprised. Its not the worst paint job I've seen though!

I do like an XJ12, and I love the Jaguar V12, its a fantastic engine and even gets along with that auto very well. A manual gearbox is certainly transformative to the driving characteristics though.

To a much lesser degree, I learnt this lesson with 2 E46 330's. The auto didn't feel anywhere like as quick as it should. The manual really does go well.
If I could have kept the XJ12 a manual conversion would have been on the cards, eventually.

B707 LPG - great car!

I really want to manual swap an XJ12, or see if I can find an S1 manual V12. I did see an XJ12 with an Aston Martin dog leg five speed a while back, but missed out on buying it.

Still hankering for an S1 4.2 triple carb manual XJ with suspension mods after missing out on one earlier this year. What a car that must be!

Yes I could. I've already got an S2 Double Six (that won't be staying) and another that is really a project in parts form. I'd really like an S1 though!

So we've liberated a fuel tank from one of the other XJ-S projects (A green XJR-S that hasn't run in quite a while and won't for a year probably, so I've pushed the problem into the future) and it looks massive sat outside the car. I'll try to get a photo of it next to the one that is currently fitted to Curfew if I get a chance.

The reverse lights also cleaned up ok, but just need a bit of polishing. Its not much but at least its nice to save them.

Funnily enough one of the people who did the stunt driving for Curfew found me on Twitter and asked if I had sorted the clutch and overheating problems (though they did say it looks like I'd bought the best out of the three). I knew about the clutch issues but not overheating, so will need to test that out. It could be related to a few things, but one large sign would be the fact that the air con has been removed, which could affect the fan cutting in. In time I'll look to upgrade the fans and radiator (among many other things!).

There's a lot that can be to blame for poor cooling on the V-12.

Common ones that are often overlooked are the the fan clutch and seized centrifugal advance

Yes its certainly not an engine you want overheating, either. As it happens we checked a couple of things a short while ago and it had very little water in it, so we're checking to see if it has a leak. It did sit and run fine (and within the right temperature range) once we'd topped it up though, and the fan cut in ok.

Good work Sir! Ignore the classic car bores and crack on with it. I'd be changing the colour scheme inside and out for sure.
Are you keeping the bonnet mounted lights? Would they not be illegal?

I'm looking forward to hearing this on Throttle bodies.
The purest mechanical sound of the big cat, would be worth every single penny especially since you already have the bonnet scoop!!!

You know, I'm not entirely sure. They don't appear to be designed for cars but additional lights on their own aren't illegal. If I could find similar size (but better) lights I might be tempted to keep them, and design some little casings on the bonnet for them. As for the colour, its definitely changing, and will be bright!

Yes it should sound amazing, it sounds a bit gruff at the moment. There is a walk around video on youtube but I can't link to it. Will be making a driving video soon enough hopefully and will be able to let it loose! The bonnet scoop is only riveted on and not cut through, which is fortunate as its bloody ugly!

Why did you buy it if you are planning on changing the looks? Surely the whole point in buying this is that you have to car from The Curfew.

I love the muscle car looks. Flared arches and green stripe are great. If it were mine I’d replace the fuel tank and get those side exit exhausts working.

Lets be honest, its not as if this is an iconic movie car where changing it will damage the value. I want to improve it and make it into a car worth using whilst retaining its character. The flared arches are great, but the green stripe makes it into a poor replica of a Group 44 racer. The problem with those side exit exhausts is that with the current placement you'd have to cut through the sill and everything else to make them viable, or reroute them out and under the sill which would make them sit very low on an already low car. (or at least part of them would). I might try and create ones like on an actual Group 44 racer but it remains to be seen.

Edited to add - fuel tank is already being replaced thumbup
