Well seeing as you're driving past my house on the way back it would be rude of me not to offer you space in a garage and some tools if you need an emergency pit stop when you're flying down the A46 near Nottingham, come off at the A52 and head towards Nottingham, you can always carry on the A52 onto the A453 and get to the M1 that way. I'll PM you contact details as I'm pretty pessimistic you'll make it all the way :-)
Nice offer!

So whats your plan? hit the starter in the hope it's a sticky solenoid and drive it away (to a pre-booked mot obviously)
Why MOT a car that is already MOT’ED?

Got your brave pills?

Doesn't start and smokes when running scratchchin

Either it used to run, and has now seized or someone has nicked the starter motor.

Will be keeping everything crossed for you mate.

Well the adventure has begun. I almost postponed it as I was ill yesterday eve but a good night sleep made a world of difference!

Got the train at 7am, i've got a couple of changes but should get there by midday smile

Thanks toastyhamster for your very kind offer! I might have to take you up on that, I'll be in touch!

Good luck, I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say I will be watching closely and crossing my fingers for a good outcome...

Good luck sir! Hopefully it's a crappy starter motor and the AOS just needs replacing - then you're off.

Thread is failing to deliver, where's the train delay updates? Where's the OP forgetting what he's meant to be doing, having a few beers on the train, falling asleep and waking up in Edinburgh?

I am disappoint.

Best of luck!

In the same vain as toastyhamster's offer, I'm 10 miles north of Swindon and have a double garage and a load of tools if you get close to home and need assistance. Not sure whether that works depending on where in Gloucestershire you're heading too though biggrin

Can't seem to get pictures to work frown

Anyway - train was on time, seller collected me from the station.
Having spoken to the chap by email I knew the only reason it was listed as a non runner is because the battery was flat! So I brought a jump pack with me and managed to get it running. Went indoors to do the paperwork and stupidly left the jump pack connected up so it drained all its juice and I couldn't restart it!!

Cue a call to the AA who got it going, at which point the seller handed me back £80 and said to buy a new battery for it! Top bloke!

Currently on the way back home and it drives lovely, it's a fair bit quicker then I thought it would be too.

The car came with a whole heap of history including a £2.2k bill from July this year where all the suspension and brakes were renewed!

Got a cracking buy.

Ob and theres a tiny bit of oil smoke on startup but it clears very quickly - definitely the AOS.
