Are the bits crossed off in red the things you have gotten done?

If so, that's impressive.

Also, bloody impressive fail list. Was it off the road for a very long time beforehand and you just threw it in for a test?

The bits in red are the bits that have been sorted and the blue is still to do.
I had been driving it for almost a year and it had been mot'd when I bought it. It had been off the road for a number of years looking at the mot history which starts in 2014 and went in for an mot just about every year since.
When I bought it, I knew it was rusty but I just enjoyed driving it too much to want to take it off the road to repair it.

Hooky test on it when you bought it?

Surely all those things can't have materialised in the last year or so... biggrin

Top work though, I wouldn't have the patience.

Thanks! Some days I've been going along to work on it and have lost all motivation to do anything with it, I think the better weather and nothing else to do has helped keep me motivated.

OP - you may be interested in the mod comment about half way down this page - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... I'd of course double check any such change with a mod, but it suggests you may now be good to post YT links.

Spotted this for sale this morning so went along and bought it. It drove fine apart from a very annoying oil pressure warning buzzer sounding randomly for different lengths of time.

I didn't have any oil on me so just gave it a quick check on the way home and seen there was definitely oil in there, it wasn't until I was back and on level ground I checked and it was way above the maximum level on the dipstick.

First thing I did when I got home was changed the oil, then fitted a matching set of wheels then fitted a stereo. The oil warning buzzer hasn't been on since.

Great thread! Think I've read it twice.
And I think it's great that you are helping keeping these cars going. As many others have said.

The commitment on the chevette is actually inspiring. I have a very early memory of being sat in my dad's, it was green. And had a brown interior I'm sure. I also think Tears for fears was playing on the radio.
Pretty sure it was a bit rough and ready and that was sometime in the mid 80s I guess. The ones left on the road must have had a lot of work over the years. And in my opinion they are worth putting the effort in. Very cool classic.

A little bit more progress made on the Chevette this weekend, the boot floor is pretty much done meaning the only big bit of welding left after that is the drivers door. If you're interested I made a long video of the sections of boot floor being fabricated which shows the basic process of cleaning the rusty area, cutting out the rust, making paper templates, using the templates to make the new parts from sheet metal then shaping them with the use of a vice and hammers then welding them into the car.

Chevette only has a couple of weekends worth of welding left to do then I need to swap the engine, gearbox and steering rack, change the lights, fit bumpers and it should be ready for an not.

I had a look at the Lada today, seems to be complete but requires welding on the floorpans. Repair panels are provided.

I'm swapping this for it.

An Audi A6 2.5 TDI 5 cylinder with 6 speed manual gearbox, I didn't pay very much for it but think it could be desirable to someone. I'm not sure how much someone might pay for one, there don't seem to be any for sale to compare with.

The mot is due to expire shortly and may need a few things sorted to pass the next one. I was going to sell it anyway but would have waited to see if it got a covid extension and sold it with 6 months test. With the Audi going I'll be on the hunt for another bland and anonymous "modern" car.
