Superb hobby to have during lock-down, enjoying watching your vids.

Your lady has the gift of drift.
I think you have have too many traction traits...
It's been keeping me sane these last couple of months, I went back to work last week so now I'm going to have less time to do this kinda thing.
My Mrs is better at drifting the tractor, I'm too scared of tipping it to go full throttle and full lock.

I was able to get the Lada on the ramp for a look underneath, it's in pretty good condition apart from the front chassis legs, it should be straight forward enough to repair or replace.

When the Lada arrived yesterday on a car transporter, it was jammed in gear, the clutch slave cylinder did appear to be moving when pushing the clutch pedal but obviously not moving it enough. After rocking it back and forward on the truck I got it out of gear and off the truck.
I jumped in the Audi, it started for a few seconds, sounded funny then a little black smoke came from the exhaust and wouldn't restart. In the whole time I've had the car it's been fine and then when it's time for it to go it stops working. I'm stumped as to what it could be. It was driving fine the previous day.
The recovery driver was keen to get a move on so just winched it onto the truck and that was that.
I feel shady giving someone a now non running car as a trade for the Lada so have offered to give some money to compensate.

Yesterday I collected a large and very heavy work bench, the guy selling it forklifted it into the back of my ranger, it didn't quite fit but we managed to get it home by resting it on the tailgate at an angle.
Getting it out of the truck at the other end was a little bit more involved. I reversed the truck up to the ramp then used the ramp to lift the bench off the tailgate, I opened the tailgate then dropped the ramp lower than the bed of the ranger then pulled the bench onto the ramp.
I used wheel dollies in front of the ramp and slid the bench onto them then used an engine crane to flip the bench onto it's side (it was upside down to begin with) After that we pushed the bench over and used wheel dollies underneath to manoeuvre it inside.

We spent most of the day tidying but I did manage to get some use out of the bench when welding the exhaust on my tractor...

The other Lada arrived yesterday along with a nice set of Fiat x19 wheels. It's basically a rolling shell with most of the parts just chucked inside it. I'm going to use parts from this one to make the other one complete. We already removed the clutch from it and fitted to the SLX yesterday so now it can at least be driven. I've never been a fan of the big chrome grille so probably going to swap it for the standard one on the other car along with the bonnet.

I'm toying with the idea of fitting the body to a 4x4 chassis or doing something silly with it. I wouldn't want to butcher the Niva for it because it's in such good condition.

Can you remember when you offloaded a 305 saloon with a turbo D engine in it?

Yes, I used to own the blue 305 saloon which is currently for sale in various places. What would you like to know about it?

The engine was swapped by the previous owner who had fitted it in 1999 with a low mileage TD 306 engine from a write off in a scrapyard.
He was very attached to the engine and had wanted to keep it when I bought the car from him in December 2015.
In 2016 I swapped it with a friend for a Datsun 120y. My friend mot'd it, replaced the clutch and timing belt and used it for a while before passing it onto another friend.
My other friend used it daily for a year or so then I ended up buying it back and swapping it for a 190e with another friend who is currently selling it.
It's quite a quick car and fun to drive. I'm contemplating buying it back and removing the engine to fit into another 305.

Thanks for the info, my mate has sent a transporter to get it for himself, it'll be back on the road in no time.

Yes, and he’s very happy with it and grateful for your time. He does daft stuff, like converting a phase 2 205 to a phase 1, “just because “. It’s people like him and you that make motoring a better place. It’ll be in good hands.

We fitted some wheels and made a little video of the car driving up and down the road. Still haven't gotten around to fitting the home made LSD so it's still just leaving one wheel peelers on the road when pulling away!

In other news, the Chevettes welding is just about complete, I ordered a new bottom door skin and welded it in. My friend came over and fabricated some inner door parts which were quite tricky to make.
Unfortunately some of the welds along the door that I'd buffed down have started to crack with the tension of welding in the internal parts so I'm going to have to weld the outside of the door again.

I went and bought a Cortina...

Oh dear! by srblythe, on Flickr

I had been looking at the car for 5 minutes when some other guy turned up with a trailer who had also travelled from over an hour away to see the car, the guy selling the car was like "oh fk" that will be the guy from Perth... The guy from Perth was raging, I thought he was going to beat fk out of the seller when he told them "the car's £2k, whoever wants to bid the highest can have it" I was ready to walk away when the guy from Perth just said, "we already agreed on £1500" he then showed me the texts on his phone of the conversation. Then he said he wasn't dealing with the tt of the seller and fked off in a huff.

After he left I said to the seller "would £1500 buy it?" he said he supposed so. I asked if he would accept a bank transfer and he said no, he didn't do online banking but could do Paypal which I wasn't particularly keen on, I had some drama with Paypal and ended having to send half through that and half to his Mrs bank. It was a lot of fking about.

It was advertised for £3k a few days ago then the price dropped to £2k because someone who'd been to see it had poked a hole in the chassis leg and the seller got the fear thinking it was totally fked and probably nobody would want to buy it. If that other guy hadn't turned up I'd have probably paid more for it..

Can't tell from here, but are those late Mk4 XR3i wheels. Would look better of period steel IMO

Gotta love the louvered rear windows
