The 2014 Alpina D3 Touring with *almost* moon mileage
Discussion
I know it was a debacle of the finest order but that car will go on forever now. Everything else is orders of magnitude cheaper than a fresh engine.
My boss has a late E61 535d and blew up the box and engine within 6 months of each other (box due to an extremely zealous poor remap, and engine ran the big ends when his mechanic didn't tighten the sump plug properly)
New box and rebuilt from the ground engine at a cost of over €12k, he knows it's a keeper as the clock on those has been reset to zero. Suspension and brakes are all easy bolt on stuff. Wiring doesn't break down like it used to. I wouldn't have the slightest doubt that both these cars will go on for another decade with no major work to engines whatsoever

So since I bought this the rear was always a bit bouncy.
After getting all the history checked it was evident that the rear dampers had done 222k!
Anyway while it was at BMW I asked for them to be checked to be told they were fine..... knowing they were most likely knackered, I ordered a set of updated LCI adaptable ones.
On fitting them tonight this is the state of the old dampers...

The one on the left has no oil in it at all and no bump stop left. The adaptive actuator isn’t connected either.
The one on the right has no bump stop left and most of the oil is on the outside...
So yeah, pretty fine BMW...
Can you feel any difference since replacing these? After getting all the history checked it was evident that the rear dampers had done 222k!

What's it rated for? Some surprising towing weights, my parents' 75 Tourer with Nivomat self-levelling, 1860kg over its own weight. My Mondeo with nothing special, 2000kg beyond its already porky 1550kg!
