Fabulous work! I could never be bothered to maintain a car like you do, as I enjoy driving them too much. But I'm always grateful that there are people who look after cars like you out there (because I like to buy cars from them hehe ).

Thank you. Don't get me wrong, I massively enjoy driving my cars to. I try not to take them out in the wet weather to be honest, but I will. Just results in a good wheels off wipe down after, I often have a good old prep before a show then equally as big a clean after if it's rained during on the way back.

I love how that looks. That style headlight just looks right to my eyes.

I've not been too well this past 6 months or so and no longer have a fun car that I enjoy driving on Cornish lanes. Any BMW I like is just silly money nowadays but I have the chance of a Clio 172, hence my finding this thread. Can I retro fit the earlier front end? smile Only kidding. Well kind of.

They have a distinct look the phase 1. I love them!

But yes, wing / bumper and lights etc can be swapped over. Though parts not so easy to get hold of.

Been a while...

I attended lots of shows last year and managed to get selected for detailer choice at a show in Castle Combe back in the summer.

Spent most of the year doing a few more finishing touches, new badges, updated side trims, various bolts / clamps etc. Not a lot planned this year though, as there's not much left to tidy / replace as it goes. It does get used (seldomly) so ill try and keep it in good nick while getting some more use out of it! I bought a BMW Z4 Coupe last year also, so that will now slowly start getting more attention.

Just reading the OP, how does it compare to your old elan m100?

I’ve had a few clios and currently have an ex uk clio cup 182 race car. I also have a very ropey project m100 I’m wondering whether to complete or move on. Interested in hearing a comparison from someone who’s had both.

Love this, looks immaculate particular the weak inner sills! I've had 2 phase 1 172s, first when I was 21 and the car was 3 years old, second was a few years back when I and the 172s were obviously a lot older!

First one I drove like any 21 year old would do with a hot hatch, like I'd stole it. Managed to destroy 2 gearboxes, had a spark plug come out the head taking threads with it, sheared inlet manifold bolts, all within the first 8/9 months of ownership so I gave up and sold it on. Purchased a 306 GTi-6 after that, which never gave me any bother and was a much better hot hatch imo, but there's something about the phase 1 172 that's hard to explain, gets under your skin.

So few years back I thought I'd relive my youth, purchased another phase 1 Titanium, which was mechanically solid but had rust issues. Kept it 12 months, hammered it and bar rust, didn't give me any bother but rust made me sell it on.

Still fancy another, they are fantastic things.

Exactly that, they are great fun. Probably the longest owned car I have had now to. It will be hard to part with it 1x day that's for sure.

The Elan was 1x of my favourite cars. Unfortunately it was owned some time ago now, so most memories are all good ones. Once I refreshed some suspension parts , fitted some semi slicks and AP 4 pots the car was a fantastic FWD handling point and shoot machine. Finally at 200bhp it was an absolute hoot, especially around Castle Combe, it really was a little rocket. I loved it, it only sold due to a house move, lucky the new neighbour opposite had one in the same blue which they had owned since new, and still owns now! So, I think I'm lucky to get a glimpse of the old M100 throughout the year.
