Am i correct in saying, you don't need planning permission when putting a garage up so long its only 1 story high correct?

Looking good though, do like how the Skyline's turning out.
Permitted development is 2.5m max height and 30m2 max internal floor space...height is measured from the highest point on the plot so if you have a wonky plot (or live on a hill like me) you can squeeze a bit more headroom out of it; I'm 2.3m at the highest point and 2.7 at the lowest. Hope that helps.

Looks fantastic mate smile I like the living roof idea. I did a similar cheat, and backfilled to the garden level on one side so my max is 2.7m.

Someone clever on here also suggested calculating internal space as if I had an extra 100mm insulation in there, which has let me keep on the big side.

Since most people aren't into cars anymore I tried to keep in mind the next home owner will want to turn it into a pub. So insulate walls and floor, and put a bifold on the right.

Well... I think this will be the last post before I have another video. I've started making one, that has been good fun, but need to complete a few more tasks before I can wrap it up.

The inside is painted now. I need to do the metal beam with hammerite to stop it rusting through the emulsion, but it's pretty much there.

Floor is done with 'floorsaver' epoxy. I'll see how it stands up. I'm happy with the finish, but last time I used epoxy floor paint it was pretty toxic, and this seemed overly 'water based'.

Current tasks... I'm putting panel lights up and getting the nissan rolling....

Now these are just my old parts to get it rolling - although the temptation to get the car in a working state again may be over powering... lets see how we go huh. My goal is to move the car this weekend.

Looking great - I’m pretty sure that space will shrink rapidly when you get car, car parts, tools and racking etc in there but at least with a blank canvas you get the opportunity to get organised at the start

Oh yes, I'm under no illusion that this will get real small real quick. Its definitely about planning how to work in there well.

Nice! Slightly envious of that space smile I've moved to the new house now and my double garage is utter garbage in comparison. I need to stick a new roof on before winter to stop it leaking...

Looking forwards to the next video.

Its only a tiny bit bigger than double garage mate. Its 5.5 x 6.5m. It'll get small quick, but I'm going to try my best to keep it efficient.

If it's flat, I used rubber4roofs, really good, they've got a kit builder on their website.

I've got some catching up to do with regards to the car but loving the last couple of pages on the garage. You'll fly through the car with having it at home, the odd hour or two here and there you can just pop out to measure stuff or to carry out a menial task will be invaluable.

I dont have much head height either on mine and the Quickjack i got from Costco has been a godsend, i bought it about 2 years into piecing my car together on axle stands and kicked myself for not getting one sooner. It only allows 500mm of lift (or slightly more on extender blocks) but its pretty portable and takes 5 minutes to have the car up in the air half a meter.

I did enjoy - thanks for sharing - I loved the cat substitution bit in the middle hehe

I think you should do a time lapse video of you moving all the tools and equipment into the new place biggrin

Who would have thought that 22 minutes of a guy assembling suspension while describing shed construction would be so entertaining?

Honestly mate, at this point I think you could do an extra 15 minutes on the paint drying and I’d tune in!

Brilliant as always thumbup

Its why working from home is so difficult. Just get lost in his paws. - btw dude, finally stuck the roof down last night, you're right, dead easy job. So impressed by the whole system they put together.

Looking forward to getting the next video out, few weeks though I think. Shot the intro because I couldn't resist seeing what the light is like in the shed. Its quite exciting.

Alex,

Great to have the videos back. Congrats on the kiddos btw, you can't be happy all your life ( from a Dad of 2 younguns, so I jest). I find the videos quite relaxing to watch, they really are the perfect chill out video. Your sort of can-do, have-a-go attitude is a great attribute. You'd be very employable I think!

I think the new "shed" is great. I find that once I have put my two young kids to bed it is nice to be able to sneak off to the garage for some WooooSaahh time!

My lighting is absolutely shambolic in comparison to yours. I was looking at the panel lights a couple of days ago. I have approx 40sq metres internal area in the working area of the garage so I assumed about 12 lights would do it. I think you have slightly more, so obviously I am instantly jealous! Whilst the panels can be sourced relatively cheaply (£15 from questionable eBay sources) the holders seem to be the same sort of money, which obviously doesn't sit well with a tight arse like me. Did you splash the cash for holders, or did you fab something up? I'm wondering about either 3D printing some U channel or getting a bit cowboy and getting some U channel and lobbing that horizontally on the ceiling (which isn't a ceiling yet!).

Also, you do realise that you are going to have to create something similar to what I am doing for my boys, only you'll execute it a lot better;

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I expect a properly scaled 1:3 Gtr by the end of next year.

Cheers

Jon

That looks fantastic Jon! what a great project. I'll follow with interest biggrin

Yeah the light frames are a PITA. I pondered over it all for far too long. Eventually after I'd had enough whiskey one evening I ordered the cheapest ones I found on ebay. They work out at <£7 each. Sure it adds up, but sometimes you've got to pick your battles mate...

I've got 16 panels, so making a system to suspend them would have taken ages. These are super neat, simple, and I got them all up (above the skyline) the day before I moved the car in... so I've been right up against it with everything, just the way I like it lol.

I'll take it all with me if when I move house too lol.
