Hi all,

Car has been in for a detail this week. I collect it tonight but some pictures from my detailer below:

And a final image taken pre-detail...

Tomorrow the car goes in to REP for a carbon clean and top gear performance exhaust. After that I will be done spending money for a while!

Lovely car, I have a real soft spot for these early R8s. A future classic for sure.

Car looks great!

I used Ed at Divine Detail to detail a Mythos Black A6 I leased.

Curious to know how much faster it feels after the carbon clean.

As I understand it, these cars lose a decent amount of power due to build up.

Very nice.

These are ageing so well.

Prices have softened on the V8 and £33-38k seems to get you a nice one. I much prefer the original shape to the later version. Early V10 would be my pick now having had a v8

You’re looking at $100k+ ~£55k for an early V8 here in Oz frown

Hard to compare directly, but for totally different economies a good proxy is variance on average salary (£30k UK, $85k Aus). On this basis $100k for an early V8 in Aus is about the same as paying £35k here.

Congrats OP - looks fantastic, and a lot of car for the money.

Great choice, had an early V8 and a 2013 V10 Plus, two of the standout experiences in my motoring history. Looks like a great example.

Update:

Collected car today from having the exhaust fitted and carbon clean done.

Carbon clean first - there was lots of build up apparently. I do feel a notice improvement in low down torque and it feels like the car revs more cleanly. Difficult to tell to be honest but engine just feels happier.

Exhaust: oh..my..god. The best money I have ever spent on a car. Driving experience transformed and it sounds properly exotic. Valves open it is crazy crazy loud but also a lovely exhaust tone that builds to a howl (think capristo 355) at about 6k rpm. The engine literally becomes a musical instrument and I'm over the moon with it.

So jealous. Gorgeous car, the V8 has to be the right engine!

I can just imagine it sounds amazing! Enjoy!

The few times I have seen R8's out and about I'm always struck by how low and wide they are! Congrats, lovely car.

So we have our first issue!

The air con is not blowing cold... fans are working but it's just warm air coming out of the vents.

Does this sound like compressor or another issue? If it's compressor that's an engine out job on a V8...

The most likely is a leak in the condenser, which has meant all the ac has has leaked out.

Get a specialist car air con chap in to give you a view!

Aircon does slowly get less effective over time and sometimes it 'only need a regas' (as every dodgy Gumtree car ad says) - if that's the case you can buy a refill cannister from Halfords or online for about £60 and try to refill yourself.
But if it's gone from cold to nothing in a fairly short period of time it's probably a leak in which case find a local aircon specialist who can do a leak test for you (you can do them yourself, but for the cost it's not worth the bother) and repair if necessary.

That’s a lovely car OP; they’ve aged so well and make the later cars look a tad fussy to my eyes.

Sorry to hear about the A/C. The only tine I’ve had similar it was a dead compressor which was on bloody back order. Happened in a really hot spell in the summer.

I had this issue on mine.

Try the valve which located behind the passenger side light. It shares a part number with VW which means its half the price of the Audi part. Worth a try.

An AC specialist will sort this but can try this for free. Will require regas after.

On the AC I had an issue on mine a few years ago but wasn’t coming on properly was a pressure switch.

Compressor change is an engine out job I believe and you may as well do clutch so you might be back to Ricky he’ll sort you out I’m sure.

Congratulation on your new car. I owned a V8 Manual for just over 3 years. Loved everything about it, apart from the sat-Nav.

Clack clack of the gear-leaver, and that wonderful V8 noise. Not the quickest cars in the world. And certainly not compared to modern cars. But who cares? Enjoyment doesn't mean who's travelling the quickest.

I miss mine, and if only car's weren't so damn quick these days, there might have been a MKII V8 manual? I'd have probably gone for one of them. Or even a V10 manual.

I went in a V8 at Rockingham pre launch with Tim Harvey at the wheel. Surreal experience amongst other cars and drivers. Iv always had a soft spot for these since and would definitely choose the V8 over others.
