I was at Lidl doing the veg shop and whilst in put one of those rechargeable LED torches in the basket (great item)! along with the veg and went to pay.

Given the high speed checkout the norm is to unload trolly and then put it back in after the checkout and move to the side and pack it into bags etc.

I did this and went packing up I noticed the torch at the bottom, under a bag Id brought in with me and I hadnt taken it out of the trolley at the checkout stage and therefore not paid.

I looked back at the checkout and there was a fk off queue that Id have to rejoin so I kept on packing the bags and left - feeling awful but strangely giddy at the thought of 'nicking' this £10.00 item.

I got home and Ive been feeling guilty ever since and feel I should go back and pay, saying I only realised when I got home.

Anyone else guilty of any theft activities?

Just to add - no reason for me stealing it - financially fine etc - it was just a weird thrill of the moment that I knew was wrong but I still went ahead for some reason and now I feel st about it

Now you’ve confessed the police will probably raid your house and you’ll be put in prison for 3000 years.

Just don’t make a habit of it, was it a self service checkout , if so could of been an error if you thought you’d scannned it. I’m sure most people have done it at some point In their life..mine was as a child stealing sweets..

Only when shops fail to scan an item in the Trolley. Happened this week - £15 item.

Not my job to mentally add up what it should be and point out the error.

I have gone BACK to Tesco with the product I've failed to pay for and asked to pay for it.

They looked at me like I was an idiot. But it's the way I was bought up.

Honesty is most important.
If I'm over paid in change I point it out.

Fraid so. Thousands of pounds worth. Whatever I thought I could get away with, parents were the same.

filled the car in wales, the garage had a deal on half decent deckchairs,
stood at the counter with 2 chairs told the youth £50 on pump 5 and these,

when I got home I had been charged for the chairs but not the fuel, had binned the ticket so don`t even know where it was,

felt guilty for days.

As above I was always brought up to respect honesty. Once found a wallet when I was about 10 in the fields behind the house with about £200 in it (1985 ish). Got my parents to take me to the police station and handed it in. When the bloke claimed it a couple of days later he got my details from the police and came to our house and gave me the cash as he was more bothered about the other items in there

Similarly when I worked the bar if anybody in a drunken state left the bar without their change (unbelievably common) it went in a glass over the till and if they came back they got it back. If not by the end of the night then it went in the tips. I will also always correct others if the give me too much change as I know what balancing a till can be like

As also said above, I may have had the odd sweet out of the pick and mix in Woolies though

You're going to burn in hell, you know that don't you?

My friends wife done this at BP that's got an MnS in.

Filled a full tank, popped in and got stuff for dinner. Paid for dinner and left. Police knocked at the door later as she got reported for legging it with a tank of fuel. Apparently they was nice about it, obviously paid. My friend was nearly divorced after telling the officers to take her away though..

I was in Tignes for the 1992 winter olympics and Ooh Gary Davies was doing a live radio show in one of the bars.

During a break he came over for a chat and a quick fag.

Somebody called him away so my mate nicked his fags and I stole his disposable lighter.

Ooh Gary Davies!

Last time I went to Waitrose I was asked to remain at the customer service desk whilst the manager was called.

Apparently I didn't pay for £200 of self scan shopping on my previous visit.

It remains unclear whether I will be allowed to self scan again, or whether my arrival at the store will result in sirens going off, shutters closing automatically and armed guards arriving by helicopter.

Years ago at a petrol station in New Maldon, new years eve on our way to Canterbury with some mates. My 205 GTI was almost empty so I brimmed it, and one of my mates offered to pay as I was doing the driving. About 20 minutes later....

'Your car is really economical isn't it'?

'Not really, why'?

'Well you said it was completely empty, and it only took £5 of fuel'...

She'd paid for the wrong pump!
