Ridiculous Speed

Agree LBS. We both know this road well and the number of deaths recorded on it are disproportionate and show how stupidly some people drive along it.
Very tempting to drive fast but the police do patrol it regularly, quite often with speed guns on bridges and chase cars further down the road. I nearly got caught a few years ago, nowhere near the speed here, but I was above the speed limit but fortunately got warned by a lorry coming the other way and slowed appropriately before I crested the hill.

I know that road but haven't been on it for quite a while and that's outrageous. Is it still 3-lane in places? Never understood why they did that.
There's been some really stupid driving and excessive speeds in recent weeks, particularly with large-engined motorcycles - some people seem to have lost their senses.
Where did the footage come from, is it a camera or following vehicle?

I’m sure I’ve driven that road in my driving career but don’t remember it.
Would I be right in saying that there are a lot of side roads joining this one.
If so you are running a hell of a risk of someone pulling out in front of you or across you and you having nowhere to go.

This road links the M5 to North Devon. It was originally designed, and was going to be built, as a dual carriageway. The first section to Tiverton was built as such.Government cutbacks meant there were insufficient funds to build to dual standards and the scheme was going to be dropped. The MP at the time, Tony Speller, lobbied that a road of some kind must be built so this cheaper 3 lane scheme went ahead.
Last Friday had a golf r and vivaro behind me bating as though they were in a hurry to get home. Golf passes me on the dual carriageway, no gap for the vivaro so he decided to overtake me on a long sweeping cornered single lane uphill section , then he just stayed out there like he’d forgot he was on a single carriageway. I still don’t know how I’m writing this , he just braked and swerved back in as he suddenly realised the oncoming car was in the same lane. Very nearly 4 car carnage due to some impatient t

Welcome to the world of the cyclist! I've lost count of the number of times this has happened to me on my bike. I always ride with front and rear cameras now and the police have been able to convict from my camera evidence. It's scary enough when it's happening, but it's even scarier when you're sitting at home watching the whole thing play out again on screen and marvelling at how no one got hurt or worse.t driving on that road. Lock down has been incredible time for cyclists with the roads being so quiet, but I certainly noticed that traffic was travelling a lot faster on the deserted roads and unfortunatly many have continued to do so, despite it now being even more dangerous as volumes are almost back to pre-covid levels.

Neil. My uncle was a pedestrian innocently walking along the side of a road with his girlfriend. He was killed when he was 28 by a driver speeding in excess of 80mph in a 40 limit. His body was dismembered and had to be collected up by the emergency services. My mum lost her only sibling, my grandparents lost their son and were so upset it took them more than 20 years before they could even speak about him without breaking down, I lost my uncle and the cousins I never had.
The driver who killed him, committed suicide before the case came to court because he couldn't live with having so needlessly killed someone (he was training to become a doctor).
The whole situation and so much misery, could so easily have been avoided.
I'm not trying to pick a fight with you and think you were making a light comment in fun, but I'm afraid it just touched a nerve with me and I want to make the point that this is serious stuff with serious consequences that roll down the decades.
