The dry sump pump stripped for refurbishment then the engine will be pulled and lots more gee gees encouraged to join stable . I shall try to get the specs and some audio of when it runs . I love a V8 on multiple carbs on inlet trumpets .
The Escort with a similar engine set up sounded absolutely awesome .
One of the female race officials claimed that it made her ovaries tingle !

Lots of pics of the engine build please - I've got a 3.9 on the bench in pieces ready to go into the 90 smile so any inspiration/ideas would be good.

I was talking to Peter the owner/builder today about the engine build spec but he is a bit reluctant to impart too much detail and give away all his secrets!
It will be bored to 4.8 , offset ground crank , 6r4 rods , the heads will be ported in house by Peter , custom inlet and exhaust manifolds , 4 x 48 IDA type carbs , the cam has yet to be chosen from about 4 .
It will probably be built to a mild spec initially until the car has been proven , then a full race spec will be built . Everything will be balanced.

The Ali roof panel cut and fitted and the fabric roof fitted over the top .
As well as the 2CV8 that we hope to race this year Peter also has the Jag XJR and a Holden Commodore in his fleet , He also will be running a classic E type and a Noble for Customers and the potential for a couple more for customers . If all the circuits and series get running fully it could be a very busy year .

The roof didn't look right being smooth so the fabric was removed and strengthening bars added and the fabric refitted .
The next job is to make and fit the silencer boxes each side , this will entail reducing the depth of the front doors and it will be a vent for the engine bay .
Although the car is being built along old school lines it is including some clever thinking .

Having this lot all in for work has taken up the time and pays the wages that build race cars .

Installed another car lift in the "clean " workshop. This is to be used for the assembly of restored and painted cars and race car preparation . Race prep is a growing side of the business .

The door modified for the exhaust, the drivers side is still to do and an o/s/r door has to be sourced.
The deadline for a finished car by the end of March is looking to be unlikely.
Far too much restoration work on customers cars to do and more customers race cars to prep for the resumption of racing.
Peter was talking of needing two more staff for the workshop . Always a difficult task to find the right sort of person .

Several sets will be made up . Because of the overall width they will be a bit vulnerable to damage.

Not much has happened with the 2CV of late . Peter has been extremely busy with customers cars ,so much so that he has been turning work away ,plus cars that came in for minor jobs have turned into major jobs . Customers have also decided that they want to go racing and the next three weekends will be taken up looking after customers cars .
Peters son has finally been able to get back onto the speedway track after his broken bones and the covid lockdown. Just practice days at the moment as he needs to regain confidence and get back up to speed
Don't forget speedway bikes don't have brakes and spend a lot of time sideways and young Sam is only 15 .

Still not much done on the 2CV8 , far too much customer work in the workshop . Peter thinks he has enough to fill the next 4 years , that's just the restoration work . He also has several customers race cars to look after and present at circuits. An E type at Brands Hatch last weekend .That had problems when the seals in a rear caliper failed and it split a silencer box . The E is running at Donnington this weekend. The following weekend he is running a Noble for a customer. Plus all the unplanned work that gets generated, a tidy 2CV came in for a service but stayed for an engine overhaul . Then add in trying to deal with an insurance company over the repair of a 60s Mustang convertible that was hit by a big 4x4 , as usual the insurance company aren't doing as they promised and are constantly trying to cut corners .
That is just a few of many cars that are in for work from a Mini in for a repaint to an Aston Martin that has been waiting for the last bits of chrome trim to finish a full restoration and return to the road for the first time in 20+ years . Always something to drool over in the workshop !
