Really keen to see how this develops and hopefully see it race somewhere (as a Cayman owner, all be it and older 987.2).
Can’t fault ya, I’ve had a 987.1S for about 7 years, mega car!

So next on the menu was to strip the damaged parts and dispose of unnecessary bits.....

It had survived pretty well considering but the rads are very exposed on the corners so the are scrap along with the bumper wing and a bunch of other plastic bits. As it happens I wanted to change the bumper anyway but less fortunate was that the headlight was also smashed and you should see the price of them yikes

I've recently taken on part of the repair of my GT86 which I managed to put into the barrier at Croft on a trackday a couple of weeks ago (spinner in front of me in the Complex, avoided on the grass which was still wet, barriers only a couple of yards from the track - oof!).
I also occasionally race a friend's Boxster, though not this year.

The bodywork will go to a specialist as it's a road and track car, but I have similar damage to the front quarter (just discovered the price of headlights too, which prompted the post) so I'm watching with interest.

Good progress. Very satisfying to see all the broken bits off and just the good bits still on the car!

I watched some Cayman GT4 racing on the box last weekend, though I think I had recorded it a couple of weeks ago as it was from Croft.
It looked like huge fun, and the racing was very competitive.

You are in for a lot of joy once you have the car built up and a series entered, hopefully next year.

Phfft seriously. How much can it be.

<checks ebay>

Holyforkingshirtballs £1050 for a new one from toyota. £170-£300 for a 2nd hand one.

I know, the parts man at my local dealer told me to brace myself before he gave me a price.
Also, £600 for one front lower arm. So naturally I applied man-maths and bought 2 of these instead https://86speed.com/spl-titanium-front-lower-contr...

I've recently engineered a big disc conversion for my Porsche which I think may work on yours. It allows the use of a 350mm rotor for much better heat control. Let me know if you're interested.

I'd recommend going elsewhere for your wheel alignment next time, not sure that's the Official Porsche procedure for adjusting the toe.

I ripped the whole wheel clean off the back of mine. Managed to get it all bolted back on quite easily with a full corner from a written off car. My car was as straight as an arrow afterwards so I'm sure yours will be fine.

Great thread!

Will you be slipping into the odd conversation that (by a little stretch of the imagination) JB is, technically, your teammate?

biggrin

Looking forward to the updates.

So these updates may appear to be coming quickly. It isn’t really a sign of the actual pace of progress, just that I started the project before I started the thread so I’m catching up paperbag.

Anyhoo....

Next up comes stripping out the inside of the car. A load of stuff is obviously coming out anyway but we also need to make room for the cage to be fabricated in so that means dash out, windscreen, tailgate etc as well.

So that means starting with this -

And ending up with this -

And a few leftovers like this -

The top part of the dash will be going back in but the rest is heading for ebay with the full airbag kit that strangely did not detonate in the crash!
