PH has a forum section for any question and I hope you guys can help with this one..

I'm looking for Xmas gift ideas for the Mrs and she likes taking photos on her mobile phone of the scenery when we stop on our road trip holidays. But her current phone and a lot of others are generally compromised on lens and usual abilities that a dedicated camera can offer.

So what I am thinking, is there a modern compact camera that will USB connect to an android phone (or even bluetooth/hotspot to it), so that she can take photos with it and then instantly have that photo sent to her mobile?
Something that maybe offers an amount of 'proper' zoom (by extending the lens rather than typical 'digital zoom'), which would also offer ISO, shutter speed and aperture settings? All for under £200 say?

As I'm not that knowledgeable with current options,
could I ask if something like this able to do the above? : https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/product/53525436...

Most of the Panasonics have WiFi and can connect to an app with remote control and transfer to the phone. It does happen in separate stages though (that I've seen...), so take the photo and then transfer rather than all in one.

You could try looking at photos taken by searching Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350 on Flickr.
If you click the Down Arrow ↓ to the lower right of the photo you can usually view All Sizes & decide if the quality of the camera at is what you're hoping for.
This chap has lots of pix taken with the Sony. Many can be seen at full resolution.

Which phone does she currently have? Would the money be "better spent" on a phone upgrade instead?

Cliché I know, but the best camera is the one you have with you".... Etc.

The term you need to look for is 'optical zoom'.

Personally if I want to put a photo on the net I wait until I get home.

A huge number of the Sony camera range can do this.

The WX350 you link to will certainly do what you want and although it's been around for sometime now it's still a great camera.

The price in Currys is good too, Sony list price is £229.

Currys also do the HX60 for £200: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-and-camcorde...

The HX60 gives you 30x (as opposed to 20x) optical zoom, but is quite a bit bigger and heavier.

My wife has the earlier WX100 and it's the one camera which is always with us when we're on holiday as it's so small it fits in a shirt or trouser pocket. She loves it.

ETA - this is what the WX350 can do with the Imaging Edge Mobile App:

Another vote for WX350 - we've had ours for 7 years & it's still an unbeatable combo of size, picture quality and optical zoom.
