5. Remove haze from lights
Good luck. I tried and failed to do that to one of our Fiesta's lamps. I ended up buying a very good pattern part headlamp unit for about £50.

Ah really? I saw someone do it on YT with wet / dry - I just presumed it would be rather simple.

I managed to remove some minor hazing from motorbike headlamps with metal polish, then toothpaste, but the Fiesta had quite a thick layer to remove and the plastic was quite hard and I used various grades of wet & dry. It ended up more scratched than before. It's s worth trying with the polish first.

Whatever method you use make sure you apply a uv resistant lacquer afterwards or they’ll be foggy again in no time. 3M, autoglym et al do kits that include this.

My mate restored his Mk6.5 headlights with the Holts restorer kit, they came up like new.

That looks like a great example, and a good testament to the previous owner. As a Clio 172 owner I'm a big fan of the lightweight, N/A engine and manual gearbox format.
I've been at track days with a few of these and can confirm that with some breathing mods they can really shift.
What are these like for rust compared to the puma and Ka of similar vintage?

Much better. Occasional sill issues.

Thanks for the advice on the light restorers, I'll defo explore those.

Yes rust wise, they are not bad - nothing on arches etc. There is odd bit underneath but that is normal on subframes etc - same as Octavia I have.

Excellent.

I didn't buy a kit, but used various grades of wet&dry, polish and headlamp sealant.

I had one of these as my first car, absolutely adored it. Strong engines if looked after, regular oil changes being the key.

Best of luck with it!

I remember my older brother had one of these when they were relatively new (4 years old or so). Was an awesome car!

Well done on getting that car... it looks amazing and really well cared for.
My BIL had a 2008 from new Fiesta Mk 6 and I was tempted to take it off him when he bought a nearly new Focus estate ( what a big car that is compared to the older ones...and so much electronic stuff on it...the handbook is like a novel!)....but I could not justify running two cars ( been there done that...with an Alfa 156/Fiat Punto Sporting) as the insurance/repairs etc were just too much )

It would seem that your 'new' car will be more of a 'weekend' car...... but I am of the opinion that cars should be well used... !!

Anyway, well done.

Not sure how I missed this thread.
Bet its fun on our moor roads.
Always liked the styling of approx this age Ford STs, more grown up compared to later.

Thanks all for the kind comments.

Yes, I guess it will be more of a weekend car - but will get used for odd runs to the shop, school drop offs during the week - as I am home based now, I only average 20 - 30 miles per week so I guess in reality, Skoda going kaput on me is better as it wasn't doing it any good parking there - condensation galore this winter, started to get a bit smelly inside due to the age I think. This Fiesta you could leave it all week and not feel as a guilty if that makes sense - but it will be used (and already got routes planned out over the summer).

Just watched it, decent video to be honest and agree with what he has to say.

One thing he says is these might not cost a lot, but for driver experience - they are up there and that rings true! It's one of the last old school analogue cars if you like and no fancy turbos, just pure NA engine with nice direct steering and no fancy add-ons!

Even the 1.4 Zetec is pretty good -the engine could do with being a bit better breathing at the top end, though.

Nice car OP. I know the Clio 172's and 182's are the better cars to drive, but i reckon these are the nicer compromise of fun and comfort in a cheap little hot-hatch.

Love my Renault Sport models but also my Fast Ford's too. Not being great with a spanner, I'd probably take more of a punt on one of these now.
