Assuming no good-will is forthcoming and if I had the time and the energy, I'd make a nuisance of myself by taking them to small claims court. It's not expensive to do yourself. I would be really interested to know what the court would make of these very expensive non-consumable parts failing so early in the cars life. I have a feeling that if you could show the car was not abused the court would look favourably on the claim.
Tempted but I guess I would have to suck up this diagnosis fee first which really sticks in the throat. After three and a half years and 19,000 miles I said farewell to my trusty steed today. It was this thread that put me on to a Duster in the first place. It's been a great car, but hankering after getting back into something a bit quicker.
No major issues, a couple of warranty claims for the heater blower motor and another for corroded wheels. The only costs have been routine servicing plus a set of all-season tyres when I first got it. I gave it 2 extra DIY interim oil and filter changes, plus LPG filter. A very satisfying no nonsense thing. Almost exactly £4k in depreciation over that period seems bloody good to me, there surely can't be many normal cars that can match that!
Still looking good in UN spec white with steels, whoever gets it will have a good one

They do take a liberty with the diagnostic fee. I can totally understand it for say an EML issues out of warranty, but they try/threaten to charge it even during the warranty period, and I'm certain that's a tactic to dissuade warranty claims because they don't want to deal with them.
Dealers charge the labour back to the manufacturer for warranty claims so I'd be surprised if they wanted to dissuade anyone.I sold mine after 3 years of loyal service and lost only £1200 in that time.
I've just sold my Alpine back to the dealership as I too fancied something quick, but I need to be practical again.
Been considering bangernomics but whilst paperwork was being sorted I sat in the new Duster and Bigster.
Wow! worlds apart from the outgoing model. Tonka toy looks, and doors that clunk shut.
Pricier though. The Duster they had was £28k and the Bigster £30k.
If I were in the market, I'd go Bigster. Hardly more expensive and it felt better inside than my old Discovery 3.
No idea how it drives though.

Wow, that was quick although I did wonder how long it would last. I love the looks of the new Duster, although like you say they are expensive now, although what car isn't.I've just sold my Alpine back to the dealership as I too fancied something quick, but I need to be practical again.
£25K barely gets you a Seat Ibiza these days.

Really gutted about selling it, loved every minute of driving it, even if it was just to the shops.
Very easy to drive too quickly as well. But in the end, too much money sitting out in the street, only room for one passenger and can't do iKea or dump trips when it's your only car.
At least I got to experience an Alpine for 12 months

Now I wonder if there'll be any Duster prereg bargains this Sept mmmmm

I collected my new Bigster last weekend. Terracotta, Extreme Spec, 4x4. Just under £30k including 4 years free servicing. Too early to say much about it other than it felt familiar to the Duster but is certainly, err, bigger No idea how it drives though.

I don t know really either, vehicle details who cares like you Croyde it s long gone, email address meh. DOB and name with postal address is a bit bad though. Compo face being got ready ..only joking.
I'm back in a Dacia Mike
Bigster Journey Hybrid 155.
ks that ate into my 3 yr warranty. I believe if during a warranty period you report an issue the countdown clock should be paused and the time to the fix date added to the warranty. This would focus manufacturers attention to warranty work and ensuring build quality.jamesson said:
IAt 68,000 miles, I'm very disappointed.
In the other thread you mention it is four years old, that is basically brand new in my eyes. I have to say, I don't have much faith in small, three cylinder engines, especially when they have to power a reasonably heavy car.My current car is 14 years old, if I buy a brand new car I am expecting to get at least 15 if not 20 years out of it (I reallly look after my things)
Yeah, I felt lucky that my 3 plus years with my Duster were a blessing as there were never any problems.
I do worry that I may have taken on too much with the Hybrid as it must be a horrendously complicated system what with running on electric, engine cutting in as a generator or as main power, depending on throttle travel.
Still, it's a 7 year warranty now and so far it's been enjoyable to use and sort of reminds my of being in my Disco 3 that I bought in 2005.
Unfortunately that was a disaster and still remains the most money lost on a car in 3.5 years of ownership.
