Hmm I don't think there is meant to be a hole there!

Base of rear seats is very damp/mouldy looking and sign of rusting on metal components. Must be a leak. Boot seems dry but perhaps the seller dried it before I got there!

So I may have two leaks...

great looking car. I do wonder if renting a heat gun might help to darken up the black plastics around and to the rear? getting it to look as new. you see this kind of thing all the time with people that own black bumper cars

Good shout, I have read that before. I did spray it with a bit of back to black but it didn't do very much. Tbh the paintwork ain't great in places so I'm not going to be too focused on cosmetics.

The heat gun trick is very temporary and will only hasten the plastics looking even worse once the effect wears off.
The heat makes the plastics sweat oils that gives them a darker appearance.
They then wash away leaving you in a worse position than you started.
Carpro Perl is a good product to use, or Solution finish.
Gtechniq C4 is good but more expensive.

I’d love to have the space for a project like this, I’ll definitely be following this thread.

A few snaps of the worst cosmetic flaws. Annoyed I didn't notice the damage above the door when viewing would have knocked some cash off my offer. I thought the boot window seal would be an easy fix but apparently it is bonded into the glass so would need to replace the glass.

Cracking project OP. I had a 205 Rallye when I was younger and loved it.

Such fun cars to drive.

I've heard on here that coconut oil can rejuvenate the black plastics.

Chris Harris said in an interview that the 205 was by far his favourite hatchback.

Whilst I’ve never seen him as a presenter ( don’t watch Top Gear ) I have always put weight in his opinions.

I have a hole in exactly the same place, its a common rot area. A pain to fix properly as its the fuel tank you can see through the hole

Let's see how effective this is at drying out the car. Fear it may be too cold for it to work well.

This is exciting however!

Yep he loves them. If you watch this interview he did recently with Jonny Smith he goes into a lot of detail about them https://youtu.be/N7lD0PQBvg4

He has the original 205 Rallye which is only left hand drive and very quick. The UK got a watered down version with only 75bhp i think, but similar looks and stripped out interior.

The oil breather hose is damaged, so this is on my list to replace.

Quickly changed over the air filter this evening (though it took a bit longer than it should have trying to get the bloody thing to click into place). Old one pictured hasn't seen many miles!

I dont yet have my Haynes manual

Can anyone tell me what the name of this hose is

It is broken

That's a breather hose, I can't see if it's broken on my phone, but if it is split it can drip oil. Worth taking it off and giving it a crean out.

Have you been on the 205gtidrivers.com forum? Loads of info on there and not just for GTi's.

Thanks, you can't quite see but a chunk had broken off where it connects at the top. There is an advised oil leak on the MOT, it would be too easy if it is from there ...

I've been on the forum, but not signed up, possibly should. Have joined the FB group which is helpful. Got some 19mm hose and clips on order to renew that hose and any others that look degraded.

Quality (hmm) repair to the degraded rear window seal this morning with a bit of Sikaflex.

Also chucked some in behind the rear door cards where there looked like there might have been a bit of a gap between body and wheel arch. No harm if it wasn't leaking already...
