Hi
Last week I finally managed to buy my realistic (non lottery win) dream car. Here is my 2002 996 C4s in basalt black.

It has covered 84,000 miles and has an amazing service portfolio which has mainly been carried out at PARR. The IMS and RMS and been changed relatively recently, it’s has excellent condition N rated Michelin tyres, recently fitted (and/or replaced) MO30 suspension, the list goes on and on. It also has just had a 3 day ‘wheels off’ ceramic coating. For an 18 year old car I’m over the moon with how it looks.

I went for a test drive and driving back I couldn’t think of a single reason why not to buy it (apart from the horrendous interior but more on that in a minute!). The deal was done and last Thursday I went to collect it. The drive home was sensible mainly because I had these items fitted to the roof .….

That’s right it came with OEM roof box, 2 OEM bike racks, OEM roof rails as well as a fully fitted cover and CTEK battery charger. A little bonus as I had no intention of buying these on their own.

Although the car had been detailed recently it hadn’t been cleaned before me picking it up so on Saturday I spent a few hours cleaning it up and it scrubs up well for a 18 year old car.

So that’s where we stand. I finally have my dream car tucked up in the garage and ready to go at the turn of a key. I’ll be keeping this thread updated as a diary and record about my adventures in it as we go along. It’s the car I’ll be keeping forever…….

About that interior………..

It’s in great condition but for me it’s got to go! I’ve already sourced a full black interior and my first updates on here will be me swapping it over so I have my perfect C4s specification 

That’s looks great, the 996 seems to be becoming much more appreciated, though I am biased.

God damn that’s a fine looking thing! Quite like the brown interior but can be a bit much.

These are 100% sure fire classics, one of the best looking 911’s ever. Wish i could have kept mine.

Not sure if yours is manual or auto, if auto the flappy paddle conversion transforms it, as does a topgear exhaust. Mine use to sound like a trumpet when on full throttle 😂😂 miss that car hugely!

Thanks, good spot I didn’t mention the gearbox. There was only one option! It’s a manual

Delighted for you! I absolutely love 996 C4S's.

Also, the haste with which you have sorted an interior to swap is awesome, can't wait to see the results.

Will definitely keep up with this thread.

Savannah interior?

I'd keep it. Changing it entirely will be a big job and you may well break something, plus there is the real risk of introducing lots of rattles from broken small trim clips. If you really don't like it then change some parts for black; steering wheel, door cars, carpets and so on. That'll break it up nicely.

One of my favourite cars I ever sold was a 996 C4S in Cobalt Blue with a Savannah Interior.

Gorgeous car, enjoy.

Liovely, lovely thing, and the Savannah is lovely too.

You dont have 'full' Savannah either, dark carpets, dark lower half of doors etc.

I'd at least sit on it for a while before ripping it all out, and as said above, you can pick and choose which bits to choose from. Even jsut swapping in the darker headlining, or centre console, steering wheel and gearknob etc might be enough to tone it down but would be a real shame to go full black IMO - of course, its your car though! Very jealous, a 966 is like yourself top of the 'attainable' list maybe.

Lovely car OP. Sounds like all the main jobs have been done. I would prefer full black leather interior too. Most parts are not bad at all to change - in my 986 to do various jobs I’ve had the seats, door cards, centre console, steeling wheel all out at some point. When removing the seats be extremely careful as the bases/runners have exposed metal that can scratch the interior and they are pretty heavy too.

Hope you get plenty of trips out over the summer and look forward to more updates.

Congratulations on your purchase, lovely look car with some if the big ticket service items check off.

I'm a year in to my 996.1 (C4 in my case) ownership, I've loved every minute of the experience and still learn new things about the cars character on every drive.

I'd also echo the comments above, a full interior swap is quite a drastic step, possibly start swapping some of the smaller items to start, centre console, headlining, horse shoe ETC see if it tones down the sea of Savannah, If you do go the whole hog you'd do as well to keep the original interior, originality is important, that bonnet stick will always tell the tale come resale time.

Lovely car, OP. The 4S is my favourite 996 variant. Lovely rear on it.

Part of me really likes the Savannah interior, but I get that it's not everyone's taste either.

Whatever you do, I wish you many happy trouble free miles in it.

Congrats on the purchase. To echo others, I also think that interior looks fantastic. There are so many Black ones, it seems such a shame to lose it. But of course. your car, your rules. smile

Awesome purchase. Love the C4S.

About 12 months ago I was considering a 996, but didn't do it. Rather wish I had now !

Enjoy it.
