With HRH Prince Philip's sad passing and he was the patriarch within the Royal Family, it looks like the road is clear for Prince Charles to start putting his own stamp on "The Firm" now....!
I can't see him being held in such high regard as his late father... Probably better jumping a generation to William?

It seems strange in this day and age that we place such misguided loyalty and fervour in a bunch of people based solely on birthright. Charles isn't fit to be in charge of a stationary cupboard, let alone represent the UK, we've got a Duke facing accusations of sexual abuse and family with issues that wouldn't be out of place on an episode of shameless.
They hide behind the cloak of service and duty, when really it's just a last grab for privilege and title and they'll do anything it takes to keep their way of life. It's become a grotesque side show and the rest of the world look on with fascination and intrigue at these strange characters we keep locked up in a crumbling palace and wheel out on special occasions, with the occasional unplanned escape and uncontrolled headline during their latest slip up.
If it wasn't for the Queen, they'd be gone a long time a go. I suspect Charles will be the start of their decline.

As a slight aside; in recent TV documentaries I've learned about the (partially successful) bid to change the family name from Windsor to Mountbatten on the basis that Mountbatten is the father's name. Partially successful as the family surname name is now Mountbatten-Windsor, although it is still the "House of Windsor". Liz wears the trousers in that house.

I've been saying that for a while - having a foreign head of state as a throwback to a different time is one thing, but having a new head of state who is a foreigner doesn't really fit with the times and I think we'll see all the countries where the Queen is head of state drop the monarchy once the queen goes. Which seems fair enough, and I say that as a bit of a Royalist. Charles wants a streamlined monarchy so it wouldn't surprise me if plans are already in place.I think we'll see the Queen doing less appointments now and Charles / William taking up the slack.

I've met Charles a few times, he makes a good point and puts it across well and has also been trained for the role. I suspect in the background he may take on more duties to take pressure from the Queen, but the Queen will remain as the head.I can't see him being held in such high regard as his late father... Aghhhh, she is not going to step down. Only 1 monarch in the last few hundred years has done that.
