he bad news is I still don't really fit in the car. So every time I drive it I find myself thinking the same thing. The 987 seats are definitely an improvement over 986 but my knees are always hitting the wheel.
Maybe I need to invest some energy into trying different seats. I could try the Pole Position out of my other car and see if that makes it better.
Have you thought about another steering wheel? I've just put a Momo Mod07 in mine and while it's not much smaller there is a tiny bit more clearance. You can also get offset spacers which I believe are meant to stop the rim from obscuring the instruments, so I guess must raise the wheel further ..?Maybe I need to invest some energy into trying different seats. My main grip with the car is my legs. They are still reasonably high off the seat cushion so I am just sitting on my hips. I can put up with it for pottering round and going to the shops and what not. But for longer trips I start to think err no thanks. The 996 is night and day from a seating perspective. If the seating position was right in the Boxster I'd have no grumbles ... well they grumbles I have would be much less serious. I'm being picky I know.

I have no idea but it did make mine look very tidy by comparison. RM said:

I'm conflicted by this. Yours looks great and I love to see new looking shiny 986/7 around. However, as 356/911 etc got older I thought they looked fantastic with patina. Not rusty, but dulled, faded paint, perhaps a ding or two. So why not a 986, they are ageing nicely. I'm starting to think a faded, scruffy 986 with gaffer tape on the roof and a worn interior but with perfect suspension and mechanicals might just be a lovely thing to own.The tatty red Boxster I parked next to certainly looked cool. Maybe that's just to me. I thought they both looked cool together. I'm trying not to become too precious about the little red Boxster. It's not been cleaned since I bought it and that's around a year. So I'm doing OK for now.
I don't want to become a bore who worries about mileage and stuff like that but it's difficult because those thoughts are always there at the back of your mind. My plan was to always buy one and then drive it like any other car. I'm trying to stick to that.
Great thread and throwing up some food for thought in my decision for a 986 vs 987 re seating position.
The seating position being one thing but the pedals are also positioned much more nicely in the 987. I might be wrong but it strikes me that that they found some extra room forwards and downwards in the 987?
First post here btw
