It's amazing isn't it, my children point blank refuse to have a phone unless it is an iPhone. I find it incredible that two people who have never worked a day in their lives can be so picky.

I know it will be the same when the oldest one is old enough to drive, I think they realise I am joking when I say "Of course I am going to buy a 17 year old who has never worked a day in their life a brand new Tesla as their first car", but who knows.

I don't know where the entitlement comes from, my first car was an end of life MK3 Ford Escort, I either drove it or I got the bus. I knew there was not even any point asking for anything better, I think they would have burst out laughing if I said "But Mum, what I really hoped for was a MK2 Golf GTi"

I was on a train a few years ago and there were a group of teenagers all talking about their cars and it appeared the majority of them drove Audis. One of the girls drove a 9 year old Fiat 500 and one of the boys asked her "Why do you drive a car that's so old"

It's a totally different world.

My stepdaughter is like that with phones as well, unless it's the latest iPhone she isn't interested. My first car was an end of life Mk3 Fiesta I was given by my gran and I was glad to have it. Yes it was only worth about 6p and a Mars Bar but it was mine and was better than walking or the bus.

I really wanted an Ignis sport as my first car. Those Recaro seats are lovely! Insurance crushed that for me frown

What's the best thing to use to reattach a rubber seal on a door? The lower one on the n/s/r door is coming away.

A couple of old cars I saw near the Blue Bell Inn at Crookham in Northumberland yesterday, lovely old coaching Inn that does really good food. The maroon car is a Riley according to the DVLA and surprisingly given clearly neither has moved for a long time they both show up as taxed.

The Focus has done over 500 miles since Monday and will have done over 800 miles this week by the time we get home on Sunday.

Yes it is quite a few, though I know we would do at least 700 as just from home to the B&B and back is about 400 and to Kielder Forest and back was over 100 miles. The run out will have done it some good.

The entitlement mentioned earlier makes no sense to me. At 27 I'm not really young anymore, but my first car was a 1litre Corsa, 11 years old at the time. It turns 20 this year, and I still have it biggrin

Maybe the trend of financing new cars has made it possible for new drivers to get into the latest blinged-up hatchback on stilts so many are used to the idea of "owning" a new car.

It doesn't really to me either to be honest. I think a lot of it is social media and the fact that because they perceive their friends have the latest whatever they have to have it as well.
