I know they are different creatures but I always thought both the Spyder and Monte Carlo were rather fine although the Monte Carlo (mid-engine) got itself a bit of a reputation.

How many other cars have an engine cover hinged from the side? Can't be very many!

Whoah. My flabber is well and truly gasted. From rusting hulk to eat-your-dinner-off-it in a dozen or so pictures, which I'm sure is somehow hiding an immense amount of work and money! A truly amazing piece of work.

I loved these cars when I was younger and still do.
I'd love to know what your Mum/family think of your work
It really is a work of art

Wonderful job and a great looking car !
My Dad had a Volumex HPE from new, it was wonderful on the odd occassion it was running properly, it was riddled with Bosch Jetronic issues practically from day one and left us at about 9 months old from what i remember.

Great job - respect for all the work (and money) involved in bringing something that rare back to such great condition.

Thank you everyone for the great comments. I will sort through my photos and start posting some more details over time of the restoration process.

I thought I recognised it as Christchurch. I grew up in Northbourne & West Parley... not too far away. smile

I wonder then, if the car's local too, was the original dealer Modern Lights?
The car was actually in West Parley when I started the restoration, I moved to Christchurch more recently this year. I’m not sure who the original dealer was, though it was purchased from Horizon Honda.

Thank you - I’ve taken my Mum out and she is amazed by the transformation. The rest of my family never thought it would be finished, so are quite surprised by the end result.

As a quick update, I recently picked up a set of twin Weber DCNF carburettors to complement the engine work. They need a fair bit of work but I got them locally for a very good price. The manifold I found separately which I’m hoping will clear the distributor as there’s not much clearance. I hope to have these fitted and working for spring in the new year.

Marvellous work OP, end result is stunning.

Do you mind me asking what was the (approximate) cost for all the bodywork, prior to paint? I sometime look at barn finds in a similar state of body rot and wonder how much it would cost to repair them.

Wow, that is beautiful great job.

So happy you used epoxy primer, that's great stuff.

What a beautiful engine too.
Agreed,

but ideally the epoxy should go under the filler for a better longer lasting job.
