Do they count as being a crumple zone?!What would the originals have looked like?
The project is awesome and I like the story of when the engine came from. Good luck
How anyone can do that many 'welds' consistently badly I just don't know. :Hehe:
It's a solid effort.
My first weld was probably that bad. There's probably 10m of linear welding there. I reckon after I'd done about half a linear meter of welding in a single material, I'd got the knack and dialled in wire speed and amperage, even as a completed n00b.

Wasn‘t that engine designed by Yamaha? I recall they sound quite nice, even from standard.
Then again, they have to, coming from a company that builds one of the best pianos in the world…
The V-angle is also quite narrow, built with a transverse layout in mind, which makes them rather top heavy. Probably not really a concern for an installation in an Amazone

Yep, XC90 is its normal home along with a few S80s.
Actually got the engine on ebay... seemed a bit cheap which made me suspicious but it all turned out to be legit. Was half the price of scrapped units. Unfortunately that small economy will be lost in the scheme of things!
Do you mind saying how much it was? I've been on the lookout for one of these, on and off for a while. I'd typically buy a whole car but V8 volvos seem to sell for a hefty premium.Actually got the engine on ebay... seemed a bit cheap which made me suspicious but it all turned out to be legit. This is a great project. Have to say though, if you are going BMW gearbox I'd be going BMW V8 engine also.
In! They’re supposed to be quite a high revving engine and can sound really good with the right exhaust from what I’ve read. Why it ended up in barges and SUVs is daft. It probably is mostly a boat engine.
There’s very few crate V8 engines you’d get for that money complete with induction etc.
Awesome project
