I am not sure the OP will understand some of the references since he has only just joined (and his posts are very welcome)

David Plastow was the chairman of the governors at my old school when I was there in the late seventies and eighties.

He would often arrive for governors meetings in the one-off Bentley Camargue - either that or in 1800TU

Certainly a contender for the cringe thread. (RIP).
Not even close.

Anyway, the cringe thread is alive and kicking.

Ah, the Camargue - one of the best cars to have in Top Trumps along with the Ferrari 512BB. I think I have only ever seen one or two in real life since the 1970s. Ian Tyrell did a nice video on them not too long ago.

Welcome to PH, Roger, and sorry to hear about your wife’s passing. She actually looked a little like the model in the original Camargue brochure, so I must admit I was wondering if your posts were genuine myself.

Reading your story it instead sounds like you’ve just lived a quite extraordinary life. Please do post more photos and stories of your cars.

That’s so sad, cancer is a b. Not altogether a bad thing to have a wife who gets mistaken for a Rolls Royce model though. Or indeed to have that Rolls Royce…

Life is strange sometimes.

Today we went to Gower to spring clean our family’s holiday home ready for the season and when we got there these two beauties were parked up nearby.

I’ve not seen a Camargue in years and then a couple of days after reading this thread bam!

In the right colour, they're a very distinctive car. A few years ago, I was offered a white one, with white interior and a cocktail cabinet between the rear seats. I felt it wasn't for me. I do wonder who bought it....

I smiled when I saw on this posting the queries over who I am . If you had seen on my Lamborghini Miura posting my name is Roger Byron-Collins but always refer to myself as Roger Collins, Son of an RAF aircrew officer of 40 years service and started my airline Macedonian Aviation at 25 years of age at Southend then went on to specialise in the acquisition of military facilities and airfields. After marriage to my Norwegian wife, together 50 years who sadly passed away of cancer last May we had two boys. I realised that a 2 seat car was not an option so in 1970 we bought an RR Corniche followed 2 years later by an RR Camargue and then a RR Silver Spirit in 1977. Photo is of me, my wife, mother in law with my Lamborghini Miura reg no.JS27 that I bought from Jonathan Sieff the racing driver and of the Marks and Spencer family with 480 miles on the clock, This photo was taken in June 1972 in NissedalTelemark Norway
That is an awesome photo, and the most seventies thing I have ever seen.

Roger, you need to get your exploits and experiences in a book !

I love reading entries like this!, I grew up in South East London and have been car and bike nuts forever. Many years back I used to work on an ice cream van and when is used to cycle to work up past Belvedere village there used to be a Rolls Royce Camargue with KN7 on it in upper Abbey Wood, I just loved it as it was just so different.

Very Sorry to read about your wife, life is a bh, I too have a partner, soon to be Mrs Woods the Third, who is of Norwegian decent so I understand the Scandinavian attraction

All the very best

Roger Collins

I think with respect OP, that's the wrong way round - report the keyboard warrior to the mods, and stand up to them: let them be the ones to be made to leave this site.

It's clear from the comments on this thread how many enjoy and welcome your input.

Any abusive comments are simply the result of jealousy and envy, the product of minds who wouldn't know what decency was even if it hit them in the face.

Far too much drivel is spouted about everyone's right to "free speech." But free speech is not a licence to insult and bully, and only exposes such individuals to be the trash that they are. The very fact that they expose their worthlessness from behind the "safety" of a keyboard tells you all you need to know about how bankrupt they are of any decent quantities.

Stay with us OP, share more of your fascinating car history, and know it is appreciated.

I'm so sorry to hear that Roger and I do hope we can persuade you to stay.

Selfishly, I've loved your posts; they remind me of my childhood in the 1970s when it was still possible - necessary, indeed, if you wanted to make a bob or two - for people to be a little bit swashbuckling.

Roger, ignore the clowns and stay part of the circus!

We need more post from people like you who have great tales to tell

That is what pistonheads is about and it will be a poorer place without its story tellers

I feared this would happen. There had already been a few idiotic posts on this and the Miura thread.

I've enjoyed Roger's posts like no other and am very saddened by this.

Can't the moderators instantly ban anyone who breaks the politeness rules?

I think you’ll find you are mistaken. Many on here believe that Roger and Campsie are the same “person” or “bot” that has been scraping web sources about the real Roger’s life and achievements and posting them on these three threads verbatim including spelling errors, strange grammar and the somewhat stilted and repetitive writing style.

'He' did seem to post the same thing several times.

My initial response was "Why?". A man who has lived a full and incredibly interesting life suddenly decided to come on here and show off about it. Seemed odd.
