The weather wasn't great on the 3rd day so we had a wander around Laon which was beautiful .  The cathedral there is very impressive, especially for somewhere so small.

Oh wow. That is impressive.

Must be something about Calis. Last time i was in France in the Westfield, without roof, it came on to absolutely howl it down. We pulled up just in time to watch to earlier ferry pull away, found the loo block to be locked, and ended up sitting in the back of some randoms car after they took pity on us and the complete lack of shelter!
yeah im defiantly having a roof, I've sat on the rail of race yacht offshore in horrendous conditions enough times to know having some shelter out the weather is a requirement. all of my longer trips in the car have required the roof at some stage. biggrin

Wow what's the plan with the yellow car? Start again from scratch (or at least closer to starting again)?

I can see this might be worthwhile so you know the car is solid throughout
so, the yellow car, is very early in its build, most of the alloy skins are fitted and its built up as a roller with a 711 crossflow in and 4 speed type 9 .

however, its a Spyder tub with a screen my preferred choice. its also a much later car, 2004 chassis vs my 92/93 chassis. so it has an adjustable front end. and is generally a bit more sorted. its still a live axle car.

cramming the s2k gearbox in the tunnel is going to be alot of work. so having a car thats not built yet makes some sense.

my get out of jail free card is this bellhousing which will allow me to run a type 9 pattern box. which will fit the tunnel for sure. im just not sure about putting 9k + into a 40 year old box so i will need to find a built one on abit of a deal. although my 1st plan is to see if i can squeeze the s2k 6 speed in as it will be much nicer and will suite the engine.

Nice. The s2k I drove had a lovely gearbox would be amazing to retain that. But also nice to have some legroom...

Makes a lot of sense. In many ways the current car/engine setup is too good to take apart!

You didn't buy it from a guy called Darren by any chance did you? Looks like the one we started but never finished due to me moving 250 miles north.

Saw that on market place for ages and enquired about it but he seemed a bit evasive like he was a hoarder who didn't want to sell but was being pressured to do so. Is it live axle or irs?

I'm in the Pacific sea with horrendously poor WiFi. Have a part built Spire GTR with a zzr11 engine (pre cat apparently) being delivered to the house on Friday!

i've had,  it in my saved list for ages .  been up since at least january.  it ended up being done via the chaps daughter, they were very reluctant to negotiate on the price.  but it still think i got a decent deal by the time i flip the cross flow.

let us know when the spire thread goes live,  i'll be interested to see that.

Live I believe.

Presumably if the V5c doesnt turn up, its IVA route?

v5c is only for the old escort, that donated the engine, box and axle. only the axle is staying. its going to need an iva

Fair enough.
