Shed money mk1 TT project

Looks great OP. Sounds like a really good plan to spend on this rather than keep going with your Focus. ‘Hope the TT goes well for you.
I did a sort of a similar thing last month. Rather than spend £5,000 fixing my Range Rover Sport, I sold it and spent 2/3rds of that amount on a 2008 TT with the VR6 engine - at least it hasn’t got a DPF to crack!

Just had a quick check, those 3.2 V6 TTs are surprisingly good value. Have they got the "engine out" timing chain replacement?I did a sort of a similar thing last month. My 2000 TT (225) has 163k and going strong. Checked v5 and owned it since 2019. Practical in a sense and more stuff to keep fettling.
Just treated it to allot wheel rerurb and new boots ahead of commute to Le Mans in June.
I've just fitted a Bluetooth adapter which bypasses the CD changer. Dead simple and works really well. On Amazon ...
Bluetooth audio interface for 8... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072FLLVPN?ref=ppx_pop...
Cheers for the link. Not sure whether I’m stripping it out yet or not.Just treated it to allot wheel rerurb and new boots ahead of commute to Le Mans in June.

On another note my back box fell off today. Sounds awful. Will have a look tomorrow. Might just lift it up with the forklift at work whip it off and see if I can weld it up.
Cambs_Stuart,

Not sure if the engine has to come out to do the chain. It’s not a BMW so hopefully not.
A couple of things I think perhaps hold back the values of the V6’s: first, the £710 RFL, and secondly, the tuning scene loving the 4 cylinder turbocharged engines (and all the forum chat and you tube videos that go with that).
I’ve done 416 miles in my V6 today and am liking it. But accept it is nowhere near as cool as the OPs Mk1 or as tuneable.

Nice car and looking forward to seeing where this goes!
I have a MK1 180 FWD Auto which I picked up for £750 and really enjoying it
Yay! Me, too, Mk1 180 FWD and auto. You got it for a good price - I paid double - some might say that you will have to put money into it... well, I've put about £3k into it in 18 months. If it were cheaper and more ordinary, I'd have scrapped it about 12 months ago, but I can't find anything just as interesting or more interesting to drive for £1500. And I'll still probably have to chuck £3k at it, anyway.I have a MK1 180 FWD Auto which I picked up for £750 and really enjoying it
So the back box that fell off wasn’t saveable. The problem is where it snapped off at the weld it was facing up towards the heat protection and echoing and just sounded crap.
So took the Center section to work and did a few cuts to relocate the exhaust gas’s to the ground. Sounds perfect for now. No more echoing into the underside of the car.
In the next few weeks I will be able to spend my free wages on the car. I’m so tempted to be a big kid and make it as light as possible and put a stupid turbo on it.

I’d say it sounds like a sports exhaust. Not loud but definitely not stock. Will be fine for now anyway.

They can be lightened and they can be boosted, but the engine needs work before putting more than high 200s through it. It’s not like an EA888! I think you have to dive into the internals, but certainly injectors, intercooler, downpipe and intake need looking at.
Losing weight isn’t that easy either - possible to strip from the rear easily enough, not so much from up front!
Enjoy playing around with it, but IMO don’t rip the interior out in the pursuit of lightness - it’s a nice place to be, and knocks any resale value if it’s all pulled out and bare inside.

Exhaust valves.
N/A cams.
And it’s good for 500+ bhp with supporting mods.
Not bothered about re sale as it’s a shed that I got for 900 quid. Worth more in parts. I just love light cars and this car is making me feel like I’m 17 again.

Impressive mod. How is that not crazily loud if it only has the resonator?
Still has 2 cats and the center box. And being angled towards the ground helps. It’s surprisingly quiet. I leave for work at 5.30 most mornings so I don’t want anything lout loud. Will get a full system when I can but this is fine for now. Interesting thread OP.
I bought a Mk 1 225 a few years ago and laid it up in a corner of the shed. They gradually seem to be gaining recognition as the numbers decline. Audi built a lot but vast numbers have now gone, many cannibalised for parts and they are becoming a rare sight outside of the weekend hobby drives.
I can remember the stir the caused when first launched and they are going through that cycle from desirable to worth peanuts and back to desirable again. I think they've just started the ascent and it's very hard to pick up a car that doesn't need thousands spent on it for a grand or so now.
I've always thought the Mk 1 225 was the best iteration. The V6 seems liked but my strong suspicion is that has more to do with the attraction of a bigger engine and a V6 than anything else. They weren''t that popular new and don't drive as well as the 1.8 cars imo.
I'll keep track of your thread and it has inspired me to drag mine out into the light this summer. One thing I need to do to mine is a wheel refurb. I can't get my head around the money people are asking for a scabby set when a decent refurb is only likely to be around £75 a wheel.
Good luck with your project.

On another note, my car came with a rare factory fitted armrest. Apparently very desirable as someone is picking it up for £200. Nice chunk of money back for something that felt in the way personally.

Still, if it's not crazy loud and you have the skills, why not just extend the system to the bumper?

Mine was an MOT failure and from the past invoices I think the previous owner did not want to chuck anymore money at it. I have done a few bits, full service, new undertray, suspension and exhaust blow all sorted. It now runs really well, want to get the cambelt done as it hasn't done the mileage but a few years have past.I have also been looking for something new to swap it with but nothing has taken my fancy so far

I've love to know what you can replace it with for similar budget. That's the "problem" I have with it, really.
