I think they mainly used mk2 running gear.

Really, just a live axle...seems a little simple.

I used to have a shop in Godalming as. Saw a few Gartracs. My dad was friends with John Welch and I think Martin Schance. It is odd as I became friendly with Trevor Reeves much later on in life and guess he raced them at one point.

I remember chatting to an owner at Bruntingthorpe in the late 80’s. He’d basically brought a written off 2.8i capri and swapped over the running gear. It was red and looked awesome! I’m sure I have a photo somewhere.

Mk2 body shells were starting to get tired by then and one option was to modify mk3 shells to take mk2 parts.

Regarding the suspention.the road going gartrac=g6 had custom single leaf springs on the back and 2.8 capri legs on the front with roller top mounts .not to sure about the g3 which was the of road version.

I remember the G6 of Rick Lemmon and Martin Yorkshire very well. Believe it was originally purchased by Rick from the Brundall motor co in norwich and remember seeing it being driven about Eastbourne often. One time Rick caught the front crossmember on a raised manhole cover and tore the subframe out the chassis. Also back in the day was a grey g6 owned by Mark Downing with was v6 but had a rs500 lump fitted. I did drive this one a couple of times and it was fast but the steering was very stiff and the brakes poor as no servo was fitted.
