Might be really boring here - but I remember these being rallied in the welsh forests in the 80's. One was sponsored by a carpet company and it had samples on the front wings to show how good at removing stains it was !

In want one ! Lovely car and very jealous. Think it must be only second to an RS200 for me !!

hi folks looking at the 1st photo i can see what you mean, but this is also amplified by the fact that the wheelbase is longer than a standard mk3, this therefor e makes the vehicle look out of proportion. Also the sun was very bright on a polished car. i will post some more pics soon
thanks for compliments it makes the hard work worthwhile.

Excellent. I had one of these until about two years ago. It was Gartrac's prototype G6 which started life as white, RWD and Cologne V6 and by the time I got hold of it it had been back to Gartrac in a big way and was Cosworth 24v V6 and 4WD and Auto! And BT yellow with wheels from a works Ford rally car driven by Phil Price. Allegedly. The engineering was stunning. Especially all the new metalwork from the dash forwards. Seam welded, gussetted and several inches longer that it was meant to be. Brand new chassis rails and suspension turrets etc. The rear was leaf springs and Atlas from an old Group 4 Escort probably. I bought it from a nice guy in Leatherhead, surrey for about £4,500. Eventually the gearbox and brakes gave trouble and I gave it away to some Irishmen. It eventually turned up in Yorkshire on Ebay with lots of fresh work done! The brains behind most of the work was the Leatherhead chap. Matthew something. One of his arms was next to useless since a motorcycle accident hence the Auto. He used the car all over this place including Spa where it held its own against VERY expensive sports cars. One good thing about unique cars is that you tend to notice them when they reappear. They don't seem to die. Just get modified!
If I had the money I would commission Gartrac to RWD the last of the Escort shells as Cosworth V6 and RWD only and try to keep it light.

Memory working overtime now. There were a plethora of RWD specials for rallying, rallycross etc once people had smashed up and rotted all the poor old MKII shells (I bet lots of Group 4 parts went from Escort I shell to MkII to Gartrac (or equivalent). I think a firm called Xtrac did something with MKIII shells and RWD running gear.

Xtrac make gearboxes and 4wd systems - their banner was on Martin Schanche's MkIII as they had done both. After he built one lot's of people wanted the same running gear, hence the banners on loads of MkIIs in Rallycross.

Thanks for info Patternpart. I have also spoken to Martin from Surrey in the past as i nearly purchased the yellow G6. But got this one instead, he supplied me with some original sales brochures from the XR centre in Southampton and some other info. There is going to be a feature in the coming month or so in a well known mag i have just got a few bits to finish off then it will be ready
thanx for looking

awsome car mate, i still have a big soft spot for mk3 escorts as i owned a few (s1 rst, rs1600i, xr3i) before i got into the vws and was always wanted one of the gartrac cars despite never seeing one in the metal, only in magazines!

That is a stunning car, it really is. I have a soft spot for Mk3s as well. When I was growing up the guy across the road had a mint black X reg XR3i (or was it just XR3?) - it was just such a cool car, totally standard and not messed with in any way, always promised myself one of these and it will happen when I get time and space for a project!

You're one though is just the ultimate Mk3 clap

Thats NOT a GT35 Turbo mate. GT35's are externally gated circa 600bhp Turbos... I have one. Nasty laggy things that surge their nuts off on a 2.0 YB.

You have what looks to be like a T34 from an Escort Cosworth. Good Turbos. Punchy and strong.

If you had a GT35 and 4 green injectors you would melt the pistons the first time you held throttle flat on boost!

Lovely pics of an interesting and rare car. Enjoy
