Excellent stuff. I'd love to hear it running. Looking forward to hearing about the first adventures out after this.

This is literally a few seconds after I started it. I couldn't bring myself to film the actual moment as it tempts fate!

First adventure will be for an MOT! Which in itself is always an adventure.

Brilliant work, certainly not an easy process building one of these up!

Congrats. Certainly sounds in fine fettle! A 911 is an itch I'm yet to scratch, although I think the cars I like are already out of reach financially.

Any road trips planned this summer?

Thanks to all, road trip is the 24hr of Spa race at the end of the month. Classic Le Mans is this weekend and that's a bit tight!

In a ill advised moment I decided to add it all up now it's finished.

You could consider the oil tank and posh heat exchangers as luxuries and the oil pipe and rocker shafts as bad luck, so let's call it £3000 between friends.

Not too bad I guess, don't think could do it cheaper and still be a credible rebuild.

MOT in the morning so fingers crossed. smile

Relative bargain at £3k I reckon. I wish I had the skills to rebuild the s14 in my M3, although I also want some lumpy cams and head porting done.

Now has an fresh shiny MOT, and a whole 30 miles on the clock! ...and a little leak from the crank main seal. Ah well this engine is like a sieve at the best of times so one leak out of the possible 100 isn't bad!

you must be well chuffed, do you think that leak is hassle to fix ?

To fix the leak I'd have to drop the engine and box out again. And even then I'm not entirely sure how to fix it.

It already has a brand new seal fitted when I assembled the case, so all I'd be doing is fitting another brand new seal and crossing my fingers!

It's not too bad so the plan is to ignore it smile

500 miles of running in, oil, filter & valve clearances then off to Spa to support team Bentley in the 24hr GT race!

Packed ready to go, apologies for accidental iPhone filter smile

600 nervous but trouble free miles later I arrived at Spa:

'Quick' lap of the track Friday night. Damn this place is steep!

Always good to camp close to the action:

...other than the ground vibrating my brain at night when a Ferrari went past, which I'm not 100% sure is good for you...

Some random chap turned up and started on our beer! ...but left with a Coke as he was being good driving the #30 customer Bentley. Unfortunately his team ran out of luck and tank tape to hold the car together after multiple impacts and retired.

One of the early pit stops on Saturday night:

Then it rained:

So, completely non eventful as far as my car goes, which doesn't make much of a road trip story but it's kind of what I was after smile

Got back about 01:30 last night, tired but with an engine in one piece and well and truly run in.

So. To Wales for some proper driving!

Summer has turned into a non event Porsche wise as I injured myself on my MTB so couldn't walk or drive... so now I'm pretty much recovered and the family were all doing stuff I spent the day up in the mountains to get some miles in smile

Wasn't expecting it to look quite this scenic so now regret not taking my proper camera!

Edit for typos

Just read through the whole thread. You've done a really great job on the car, and it looks lovely. Also nice to see that it gets used properly...

Car is looking great and glad to see you're enjoying it. Far too many old 911's are sat in carpeted garages, rarely seeing the light of day, let alone being taken out and properly driven!

Small update with some more little jobs done, fixed the rattling gearshift, the wobbly mirror, and most importantly replaced the cracked wheels!

So to today and another sunny weekend, another drive to Wales, where it was grey and raining!
