I’ve stumbled across Cheral Auto’s on youtube - they’ve done a few 911 restorations. Video’s are typically < 15mins in a photo slide show style.

Quite a lot on the restoration of the shell which may be useful for reference purposes.

Just read the whole thread, what a project! I'm in awe of the effort going into this, not to mention the car itself.

Finally finished this corner today, very time consuming and tricky to fabricate from scratch. I’m not happy with how it looks inside the luggage bay due to the number of welds, but the outside has come out OK in the end. I’m sure a good coat of textured underseal will improve things!

The little corner where the front wing fixing goes is slightly different to stock to avoid too many layers, but the parts you can see when the car is built are fairly correct.

I tried the new wing and the bolt hole lined up exactly with the mark I made from the original wing. I’ve not drilled it yet until everything is together.

I also remade about 200mm of the flange and little return edge across the front as it was held together by luck!

Other side to do now, then the battery boxes, then a couple of minor inner wing repairs...

Next step was a little patch to the top of the inner wing:

I bought this massive repair panel and luckily (for once) only needed the corner. Screen corner looks really good!

So I made that bit from scratch:

The car has been repaired here before (probably 20 years ago) with a big, but well fitted patch. So that’s staying, even though it’s lacking the rib features. However the join to the inner wing wasn’t great and the outer layer was flaky so that came out:

I’ve started on a patch, needs a few hours work tomorrow before welding it in.

I'm sure you've got plenty more to do yet, but I am impressed with the rate of progress. Working to such a high standard must take many hours! Please keep the updates coming, one of my favourite cars on PH!

Today’s job was the RH battery box. I removed a big old repair that had been put over the hole without cutting it out.

New flanges on to start with, then a bit of CAD, and into the metal.

Next the RH wing support to match the LH

I collected my panels from Envirostrip yesterday with a mixed outcome!

RH front wing: Mint. Just paint it and put it back on. Really that good

LH front wing: Scrap. I knew it had issues and it’s probably repairable (I even have some donor bits already) but in the time v cost v result equation I’ll be buying a new one. Shiny in places but let’s add it to the pile:

Front spoiler: Needs work. Quite a lot.
But as they are NLA and valuable it will be recovered!

Engine lid: Mixed. Outer skin good, needs one repair. Inner skin not so good.
Probably going to repair it.

I'd bang that wing on Ebay - got to be a hundred quid to a racer or whatever.

Great progress, but I'm disappointed that you've not got it in paint yet.

This is one hell of a thread, incredible amount of detail. Apologies if I've missed this, but do you have a target in mind for when you want to have it back on the road?

Someone would definitely buy that scrap wing. Possibly even me, as it's about as close to owning one as I'm likely to get if this lottery win doesn't get here soon. smile

Cheers guys, target completion is summer 2020, but the job just keeps getting bigger!

My indoor parts collection is growing.
Nothing to see here...

I’ve started on the spoiler today. Lots of dents, damage around pretty much every fixing. Bodge repair on the mounting bracket (not mine!). A few patches later it’s coming together but I’m under no illusion about the work that’s going to be needed to get it good enough for paint.

Both surfaces where the main mounting brackets attach need replacing. One snapped stud and one loose weld nut on one side. Rusted out on the other!

Spoiler metal work finally finished! Lots of little patches, panel beating and repairs. Definitely not an economic repair if you were paying someone.

Plenty of surface prep needed on the other side, but that will stay bare until dry fitted with all the panels at some point in the distant future...

I’ve just started on the other front corner this afternoon and it’s just as hateful as the first one!

Some time has passed...

Finally finished the front corner this afternoon. Really no fun whatsoever!

Two small bulkhead patches (to remove my EFi wiring holes) then I’m onto the scary stuff of sills...

OT - How does the tiled floor stand up to weld splatter and grinder sparks?

Not very well! I’ve accepted it’s never going to be the same again, but the grinder spark coating makes it non slip so not all is lost!

I always considered it as "show" garage rather than functional but repainting my grage floor gets fking tedious although I am going to plane off the high spots first next time in the hope that I can stop the high spots rubbing off so quickly
