Read this thread from start to finish at one stage I thought it would end up being broken for parts but great save of a car that seems to have fought you every inch of the way

Yes i've had it 3 years and only really pulled it together this year in lockdown. I've had many stages about throwing the towel in but i'm stubborn and on stuff like this its a good trait! I've had a few fast E34s previously which ive sold and now i can't really afford to go out and buy what i'd want now which would be an M5 touring as i've had the bi turbo and M5 saloons. I'm to far in now, well after the engine ran i made the commitment to carry on through, just go for it

Next is a radio, in my wisdom a while back i pulled it all out. Some old skool pioneer 90's setup bar the speakers. Not sure why

After radio is Air conditioning working

Most important is the EML light on the dash working along with the OBC and cruise i'm pretty sure they are all related wiring wise and this will allow the throttle to fully open and let the engine fully boost. Then i'd like to take to Charlie and run her up on the rolling road. The only other Bi turbo hes dyno'd i believe is my old one car no.445 about 8-9 years ago. It had MAF fault and was running lean with 345bhp and 400lbs. Book is 360bhp and when i sorted the MAF it felt quicker than having 15bhp added but i never got it back on the dyno, mainly because it kept breaking!

360bhp back in the day - wow! It must have felt like the starship enterprise! Will still be a very rapid car now. Fascinated to see how this one goes, glad to see you're making good progress.

Thirded. The originals suit it far more in my opinion. Top work all round though. I wouldn't have a clue.

It's the bonnet overhanging the headlights that makes this car. Well done on the project!!!

Wow it all seemed to work go, the roofs move in sequence if a little slowly. Strange i thought why was it unplugged?

yikes

That is one of the reasons why I prefer non sunroof cars - that's an awful lot of muck that has got past the sunroof seals and it's suck a pig to clean up without getting the interior wet or the headlining covered with crap

Washed it, needed the tooth brush to get the moss off the trims and some back to black trim. Needs a serious clay bar and polish. Interior needs similar love

Then on to a plan in tier 13 lock down for MOT and the last bit of work it needs

I've got the M mirrors on they are growing on me, I agree on the sunroofs. I love them when they work, not so much when they don't and let water in, which is an e34 touring speciality. All the more reason to get my garage sorted so it can be in there with my E30 in the dry

That damn car just looks so right.

As for the sunroof mechanism, if you keep the drain channels clear and the mechanism lubricated and USE IT REGULARLY then you shouldn't have an issue. They really suffer from drain channel blockage and from lack of use.

IMO the car looks better with the 'square' original mirrors.....

Good news about the gearbox, it will be very satisfying to get it back on the road after all your setbacks.

Great thread by the way !

Happy new year all!

Had a bit of a fart about today, tinkering jobs not changing gearboxes

finally bought the proper relay, this was handy work from 2 years back which got the engine cranking over

finally bought some new bonnet struts, again i should of done this a while ago! The glass tailgate ones need changing also

its not genuine the 40 plus quid BMW are asking is a piss take. See how long the fake one lasts!

Nearly finished retro fitting the rear door blinds. I love a door blind! Theres cutting and hacking to do on the door card to get these on

Gave the interior a clean/hover and the leather a much needed feed. The trim is in great condition for the age really.

So plan is off for MOT next week and while its there sort a few of the jobs i don't have the skills to do. Main one is to get EML light working so she fully boosts. I literally can't wait

Less than two years for the last fake one I bought unfortunately - I wish you all the best for the badge to last longer and the MOT to be a pass

Looking fantastic. Hope the MOT goes smoothly, then I'm sure there will be lots of embarrassing diesel shyteboxes coming up

Looks magnificent, I'm a fan of the M style mirrors personally but if I remember correctly from my e36 M3 they are fairly useless when it comes to seeing behind you...

Drove her to BMR today, 51 miles no sweat. I'll be honest i was stting it leading up to this drive with what ifs. I'm a bit silly with no breakdown cover either but i avoided the M3 "smart" motorway as if i did breakdown i didn't fancy dying and my car being written off on one of our new safer hard shoulder free motorways. I needn't of worried it behaved perfectly and sat on the motorway with ease. So first test passed with flying colours, well chuffed as it was a heap of parts 18 months ago

So at Barrys for an MOT and to sort the EML wiring which is the fly by wire throttle so it boosts fully, being main jobs. I could feel it wants to really fly but the throttle butterfly only opens about a 3rd. I'm not keen on the short shift gear lever (E60 545i) its got fitted so that may have to go and buy a standard throw lever.

I've forgotten the looong gearing aswell. 70mph in 5th? 1500rpm sir

It’ll soon be sorted. E34 fact for you, John Coombs and Ken Tyrell both owned E34s, I worked on both of their cars.
