I love reading build threads like this, especially something special with a bit of history.

Make sure you keep the updates coming.

Nice - what is the difference between a 'motorsport' shell and a regular shell?

Is it seam welded etc?

Nice project smile

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, have you spoken to John Whalley about the history of the car?

This should be an interesting thread,

A friend of mine has a Lagos blue Evo 2 and is building an Evo 1 track car to a similar looking standard to what you look like your aiming for. So far he's had the shell acid dipped and the required welding done.

Best of luck with the project.

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence and a love of cars would love integrales, especially modified ones.

Hello Imran,

The original shell is like a shoe box with no lid. It twists and flexes under load, then stress cracks appear in various places. The worst cracks on standard shells is where the chassis legs attach to the front bulkead and where the rear suspension turrets split from the shell. Cracks also appear in the corners above the front windscreen and loads of other places!

The rally shell I am using has been fully strengthened and seem welded, plus it has an excellent roll cage fitted. I did look into having my Evo2 shell brought up to the same spec but the fabricators wanted £10k plus VAT to do the job!
OK, that makes sense. It is something that I have considered. There were a few Rover Coupe motorsport shells (Roversport) ones that came strengthed etc. It works out cheaper to get one already done.

From the pictures you have posted, the shell/cage does look pretty comprehensive. I believe there are key places on cars where stress fractures occur, I have seen this on various 'race' cars that run full slicks...

Be sure to post some updated pics too mate smile

cheers.

I have been wondering for ages how serious this cracking issue is. As in, if you got a car that had these cracks in the places you mentioned, is it game over after a certain stage of propagation or is it fixable by a competent bodyshop/welder?

Sorry for the slight hi-jack. Love Integrales, be very interested to see how this one finishes up. There used to be a chef near my parents who had a pearlescent white Evo 2, absolutle porn (especially when he was parked up in the filling station next to someone else local who had a pearlescent white UR Quattro!)
