Still hovering around here.a couple of 987s have caught my eye recently:

Known seller, sports seats, fair price, right engine, right words to go with it. Such a shame its Silver and Black!

But even more so, this one:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2022090694...

I don't know much about the seller other than I immediately recognise the photo location - they seem to have a good throughput of 'our' kind of Porsche.

But more miley hence the pricing I think but what a fabulous colour inside and out, compare how much it lifts the car with the silver/black. I think interior colour is potentially more important than usual when your talking about open cars.

I'm still in my Elise, but a particularly miserable rainy journey does swing one's thoughts around again to cars that are waterproof. S2000, Z4m or Boxster seem to be the results I keep coming to, and as I've done 986 it'll be a 987.

I’ve bought from Mortimers and can recommend them. Their warranty pays out too.

Not keen on the brown interior. I have seen a few 986s with brown and they don’t seem to age too well IMHO.

I nearly went for an S2000 before picking my 987 2.7 up 2.5 years ago. Leaving aside the S2K's subsequent huge gain in value I'm not sorry about my choice. Although the Honda was lovely it's a much rawer prospect than the Boxster. Noisy in the cruise, singly-ply fabric roof vs 3-ply in the Boxster, seating position too high, cramped cabin with no storage, not as much luggage space (though still not bad). Probably a lot cheaper to run mind.

In the end there was about 4K difference in asking prices so the Boxster won comfortably. I do occasionally wonder 'what if' though.

That's the sand beige. The actual brown (Cocoa) is lovely. But fairly rare on 987.1s and almost non-existent in the UK on 987.2s, sadly.

I bought from Mortimers, near Brighton. They told me the car (911) had previously been damaged but was not Cat anything. I trusted them. 250 mile drive home, oil light came on half way home. Two days later needed a new battery. When I looked deeper, turned out it WAS a Cat D!

I wrote to them and contested it. I then got a solicitors letter saying they traded under a different name now, however they still advertise as Mortimers. I put about £6k into the car to get it spot on and just had to ‘bite the bullet’.

Apart from that the car is great….. yep, still got her! whistle

Cocoa is fine, especially on an Anniversary 986, but tan/beige gets very tatty at the handling points.

Off topic I know but why have S2k's jumped so much in price whereas the Box/Cayman have stayed in the doldrums? I'll admit to knowing very little about the S2k so there may be obvious reasons, if someone would like to explain them!

Rare car I think.

It's on the back of the whole JDM market sky rocketing driven by the US I think. Everything Japanese has gone up in value. They've always been sought after, the running gear is in high demand, people want the engines for kit cars, engine swaps and for competition use. I picked one up recently which I ended up breaking due to rust, I couldn't believe the price on the parts. £2000 for a hardtop, £2800 for an engine. They aren't that cheap to run these days. Easily comparable to a Boxster if you need parts.

I think there is a whole load of tat in the middle and bottom of the market, they rust badly, sills, rear panel, rear arches, boot floor. Plenty of people buy a shiny one and realise come MOT time they have a restoration project on their hands. Us Porsche owners don't know how good we've got it regarding rust.

I don't think they are that rare though, I couldn't believe how many people had them locally when I started breaking one. Maybe South Wales is a hotspot.

Great cars though, drove a race spec one around Castle Combe and it was fantastic. You forget they are 2.0 N/A.

Spot on sir

Wonderful engines. Twitchy at the limit though (not sure if they sorted that in later iterations).

IMHO the Boxster is the better all round car

Crikey. Am I the only person who thinks the S2K was absolutely crap with an appalling engine? I will never understand the appeal of an engine that at best Id consider gutless. Delivering some power and 4cylinder shoutyness at 8k rpm but fk all underneath, is not my idea of a remotely “good” engine.
Anyway, far too off topic.
Back on topic…does anybody know who picked up the £15-16k 997 C2S that was on autotrader until last week?

This one? share link please.

I could be tempted into a 997 C2 manual coupe. That car will be basket case though - Scotland too so full of rust.

Urgh

Why do people say they're manual when they're slushers?

Because they think wrongly that they will get more interest in their Tip

Agreed on ppl mis advertising the boxes. Bloody annoying when you are only interested in autos and still have to search through the Spanish stuff!

Anyway, thanks for finding the link again. Interesting it is back at £16,950. It has jumped between £15k and 16950.

Glasgow is annoying but basket case is a little irrelevant. Could be good for a 6month winter smoker, then punt out to Phil schofield in spring for the loss of not much money.

I really don’t see the problem with the Tiptronic gearbox, I enjoy driving mine.

Not every tw4t wants to think he’s Nigel effing Mansel! driving

Not liking the Tip' has nowt to do with delusions of driving grandeur. It's just about what you prefer using and enjoy.

Personally don't enjoy Tip' in this kind of car any more than I would a manual in a luxury saloon. Our Nige doesn't come into it.

I enjoy driving my PDK as it is clever so I am not a die hard manual type. I'm not sure I'd like a slower slusher like I have in my BMW. In the BMW its fine as I expect it to be slow to respond sometimes. That could be fine in a P car if that's what you want.
