I've just bought some poverty Pork…

Just clicked on your link, he mentions about the cost not being broken down. That's so you can't easily work out you are having your pants pulled down.
22k to end up with 334bhp, 297ft/lb, rather him than me. I've just watched a few of his video's. He says he bought it cheap as the engine had a noise. Long term plan being a Hartech rebuild. The engine lasted a few weeks by the sound of it.
Lets say he gave 10k for it, it's value was 15k without the engine issue. He's now into it for 32k, he's got what looks a pretty ropey example (interior looks way past it's best). If you went Porsche shopping with 32k in your back pocket, you aren't looking for a 1999 996 3.4 with 90k miles. Seems like madness to willingly put yourself in that position. That's 996 Turbo money.
I understand man maths and justifying a bit of extravagant spending on a car but it's such a leap I don't even come close to getting my head around. It seems like plenty of people can though. If he put that car up for sale tomorrow, I don't think it'd sell for more than the 22k he spent on it.

Hartech isn't pulling anyone's pants down. They've got a queue at the gates, they have no need to fluff up bills and if you have had any interaction with them at all you'll know that they'll be frank about what will likely happen should you commission a build. Their MO is not pretending the bill is going to be x and then hitting people with x times two.I think if you had any experience in dealing with them, you'd regret implying dishonesty.
Do agree, incidentally, re querying the wisdom of it re putting that much cash into a ropey car. It's partly why I didn't do it in the end. I couldn't find a scored car that was otherwise super clean and didn't fancy putting the better part of £20k into something ropey.
My other major objection was, as you imply, being tied to the car. Once you're in that deep, you're sort of stuck with it. What happens if it gets wrecked? You can't just buy another. For me that's the appeal of sticking largely with factory spec bar relatively minor tweaks. If something goes wrong, you can just buy another one.
That said, I'd personally take a 3.7 996 Carrera over a 996 Turbo all day long!

It's been barried from here to hell and back and anyone with any taste would be embarrassed to be seen in it. Then the detail .... over 200k miles (good going but not good for the selling price), no MOT and an MOT history that's spottier than the Dalmatian branch of The Kennel Club.
Other than that I'm sure it's lovely!
EDIT: The numberplate doesn't relate to a Boxster; the MOT history listed for B20KRW is for a Renault Master van. So my comments about mileage and MOT may or may not relate to this car .... we'll never know!

I do hope you’re not suggesting that Cabbalisticar, Esotericar, “Redacted”, Cmoose and Cabboosemoose (variously referred to as Jeremy by Monkey Harris) are one and the same individual ...
That whole concept is completely unthinkable.
On the subject of terminal failures, it can be more cost effective to get an engine from a written off car. Not that I'd advocate getting one from a car that's done 150k miles.
Am aware of a 986 S that shat its engine not long after the owner had completed a full (belt and braces) suspension overhaul. The car itself had over 125k on the clock.
The owner managed to source a replacement from a written-off car with under 25k on the clock, which had been serviced by OPC since 2008 (their electronic records didn't go back any further).
It cost about £5k all in for the engine (including ancillaries) and fitting at an independent. Now, low-mileage engines don't exactly grow on trees, but in this instance, I think the outcome was pretty good. A rebuild would have been significantly more.
Not that the investment is ever going to be recouped. I'm not sure what a 140k mile car with 7k old M030 suspension and a 30k miles engine would be worth, but I'm not convinced it'd be significantly different to one with a Hartech / Autofarm / A N other reputable rebuild.

If I was looking for an early one, would have checked this one definitely;

There is misfire, but if its -most probably- lambda or CATS, nothing to be worried about imho. If the location is correct in the picture ,some of those houses were going over £10 million - as I'm familiar with the area-
PS: There is no A.C. which is a big plus in the poverty flat 6 universe, better cooling and no condenser cleaning time or expense!

In pretty good nick on the whole. However the clamshell didn't sit flush with the bodywork when the roof was open. Anyone know if that's an easy fix/common problem?
